Words cannot describe that level of awesome. Here's a picture of my reaction:
Actually, I'm not even sure if the picture is enough.
I made my own shader pack, by the way.
Imagine what terrain generation mods the community could develop given this huge amount of height!
You took the words right out of my mouth.
This topic is now the #25 most replied-to suggestion on MC Forums of all time.
There's a reason that that is not linked in the OP any more. Please stop bringing that up until I make a decision to bring back terrain changes to this suggestion.
Don't get me wrong I like 64 bit but I'm not going to go shop for a new computer any time soon. How ever the thing dealing with terrain I don't quite understand what's the issue...so this is also going to be a stupid question; with saved worlds from the old height limit, would the cut off places regenerate or will they stay the same as they are?
TL;DR: I love this idea and I have 2 questions
Will 32bit computers still be supported,
and will cut off mountains regenerate from old worlds if this is implemented?
Probably.
That's great!

hey nocte, been awhile, that looks really good btw.
Looks great! Added! This is the best picture so far in my opinion, because the worldgen packaged with the cubic chunks mod is a simplified version of phoenix terrain mod, which takes alot of work to get something that looks normal and natural.
Yes. Before we had infinite height, you could run Minecraft on 32-bit. This would simply add the same system to the Y-axis. Obviously a 64-bit would run much better in all ways, but no, it is not a requirement. If anything, the fact that less chunks would be loaded (on render distances far or below) would mean that the game improves on 32-bit architecture (as well as 64-bit).
Because you guys on 32-bit are limited to 1G of Java RAM, this means you have much better performance on lower settings and slight improvements on higher settings. Again, still helps those on 64-bit, but since 32-bit you guys are so limited that this is amazing for you.
OMG. I just want to stare and stare...
Looks better than anything Minecraft has.

Seems like the community it voicing its desire to see this happen.
I assume no official word yet on this making its way into vanilla Minecraft?
It's the flying cutlery that stresses me out.
also you should check out Tall Worlds
It's not Minecraft, rather, it's an experimental engine he designed that uses a cubic chunk system.
