Noone understands. Microsoft still has very little agency in what heppens with mc, as the mojang development team is still the same.
The Minecraft IP is worth a tremendous amount of money because it already has a huge and diverse global community surrounding it, and while they could probably exploit that and sell a new version of the game, I highly doubt that they would do anything that risks alienating the community, at least not this early into the investment anyway...
I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
Could not be stated anymore perfectly.
I'm not one for breaking rules. I just like to bend them out of my way.
They've already stated there will NEVER be a Minecraft 2.
Unless you want a share of the money, plus, this way microsoft has a say in what goes into Minecraft, and they can also fund Mojang to give them more money, so that they can get more employees, so that they can get more work done, so that Minecraft is better, so that there are more Minecraft sales, and therefore Mojang get more money, and besides, buying mojang was the new CEO of Microsoft's first big 'purchase', as such, so he's not gonna do anything that may upset the community, and therefore, we're probably all good
or if you decided to create some mods to fix some problems in Minecraft and decide to do an 18-day non-stop stream where you showcase all the awesome stuff in you can find in minecraft while traveling on a single minecraft rail all the way to the edge of the world
Besides, Mojang is just a failure at it's core. What exactly restricted them from employing more people themselves? Or where did all those money gone if it was a factor?
Since when has Microsoft *ever* charged for an update? Also, are you aware that Microsoft makes Windows? Finally, did you know Microsoft still make PC games these days?
They might have their Xbox, but they've always been very active in funding and developing games for PC - these days they're mostly indie or remakes of their older games. Look it up sometime.
Also, what 2insanepeople said. Microsoft owns Mojang, it doesn't mean they will dictate what Mojang can or can't do.
Excluding the massive PC audience would be the dumbest business they could possibly do.
MS already said there won't be a Minecraft 2, we can safely assume this also means a remake. How'll they make their money back? My idea is that they'll push Realms and possibly add modding support for it.
In the end, we can't even pretend to know what MC might do and speculating is foolish. They're a massive international corp full of brilliant people and we're just idiots on a forum. Check your ego's and your priorities; speculating is a pointless waste of time. If you have such fears, gtfo. Otherwise, stay here and stfu.
Also I'm not a doomsday sayer, I'll be happy to pay someone competent to fix core problems that one of the best games ever still dragging for the several years with it. I do understand that such things cost money. Look at where Minecraft is now, you get new stone or flowers for free once a half of the year, when lighting is completely busted and being that way since the introduction, singleplayer lags like hell (and I do mean lags here, like if you were to play on the very bad server) and community suggestions are mostly ignored. And still no api.
Single-player doesn't lag for me (unless I'm using too many mods, which is your own fault) so get a better PC?
Anyway, off-topic. I won't aggravate the trolls any longer.
P.S. Good luck calling people with opinions that differs from your trolls, you'll go far with that attitude ^^ But anyway, I already forgot my point... Something about "don't trust multimillion corporations" I suppose?
By trolls he was referring to the pessimists that do nothing but expect the worst and don't hold back their opinions on the matter. Ouside of mcf I am a pessimist myself, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's annoying when you complain about it.
I will duck out of the way because I don't want to get in the crosshairs of an approaching flame war.
My three year old notebook can run Minecraft vanilla perfectly dude, you must be running a dinosaur. I could say "good luck in life with an attitude of expecting old PC's to perform perfectly with future software forever" but I'm not going to be rude and instead assume that you're just unaware of how Minecraft still needs a relatively modern PC and always did. It's gotten bigger and better over the years, your PC hasn't.
Don't trust multimillion dollar corps? I wasn't aware you were a bush-man... but wait, how are you using the internet right now? A multimillion dollar corp likely built that fibre/copper line you know. Good luck going far with that attitude
I'm a lead Software Engineer for a South Korean company (which is owned by a Euro multinational corp) FYI, i'm doing very well. Why so mad bro? No need to get personal, I'm just trying to get everybody back on topic.
EDIT: Complaints like this is why Microsoft moved to console gaming, people expecting their computers to never need upgrading for future software. Sounds like you *want* them to stop making Minecraft (and work on Minecraft II instead for all us newish PC and Xbox people). Not only are your arguments invalid, but they're increasingly inconsistent. Thus; the troll label was given.
Settle down. This has nothing to do with cubic chunks. And I'm done; I'll get admin/mod warned for this for sure but I regret nothing.
I poke my head in every now and again. But IRL is bussy and depressing, lol. I like to play minecraft heavily modded too and that can be a strain on the computer and leads to crashes and lags after a while, and some times i get fed up with minecraft for a while. So yah, don't poke around on the forums some times for like a few months before I get into minecraft again then I start popping in and out again.
"Because it's your right as an American to butcher the English language."
This is my baby, please support her and get her into vanilla:
First off, there should be a new variable for each block that you have, called "sky availability", or something along those lines, let's just call it SA, but then, when you unload a chunk you save the block light level of the lowest block in that chunk, then, when you load up a new chunk, it looks at the data for the chunk above it, more specifically, the SA of the lowest block, and it calculates the SA value of each block depending on that value, it then saves that to memory. And, as you fall down from a high place where you just placed a bunch of block, it will procedurally generate the chunks below it. Then you could implement some other needed stuff, like even if it's loaded it will update the SA anyway, and stuff like that.
Pros to this system: Implementation of cubic chunks. I guess. Try to figure out some pros to this solution for me would you?
Problems:
1)If someone doesn't go straight down, but instead goes really far off to the side, then down, it won't update the lighting correctly.
2)If someone is underneath said structure while it's being built they won't see the lighting updates, but this is a minor point, and I'm sure most MineCrafters won't mind this small problem in this one very specific case.
Solution(to Problem #1)
You can check, when a chunk is loaded, if the SA value on the sides have a difference to the ones next to it by more than 1, then it checks the block next to that, to see if it's greater or lower than the one next to it (favoring the X coordinate for corners). Then, from that you calculate the rest of the SA values.
Solution(to Problem #2)
There's no solution here, seriously, stop looking, I haven't come up with a solution for this one, however I would appreciate some assistance from everyone else, if you could
Please keep in mind, I designed this system to use as little GPU power as possible (if any), it should just uses as much as standard minecraft, and, any processing should be left to the CPU, which, is not where the source of most FPS loss in video games comes from
That will solve both problems without even bothering, however there is a problem when you go under the overhand terrain that was never generated before. But I doubt anything except pregenerating the whole world can fix that.
