LIES! It's possible in Minecraft, so therefore it must be possible in real life!

Curse PremiumLol, what would their popularity be useful for?

Curse PremiumMojang has known about this idea for a long time. I don't think "raising awareness" will accomplish anything useful here.
What this idea needs are talented modders to write the code. Feel free to write some code for us instead of looking for popular people. We're up to about four contributing developers now.
If I wanted to help contribute, how would I go about doing it. Do you guys have a repo that you work off of?
Think about it this way: its a whole lot easier for Mojang to say "We'll wait for a solution," on a suggestion 2-3k supporters compared to a suggestion with 2-3 million supporters. Besides, not everyone knows how to code, and having millions of people supporting this, and putting pressure on Mojang simply by the fact that they know about it does help, at least a little.

Curse PremiumWe do. Our mod is completely open source. The only trouble is, I need to work out some licensing details before I can actually release the new mod loader (Magic Mojo Mod Loader) that is needed to make the mod run. If you can wait a little bit, I'll get these issues sorted and then I can distribute the mod and all its necessary components to developers far and wide. =)
I'm back
It doesn't seem like Mojang is that interested or wants to do it.
Welp
That's a bummer
also you should check out Tall Worlds
You are completely wrong. "Raising awareness" is one of the most useful things we can do. As Avaruusmurkku said;
We need people who can code the mod, (like you,) to have a proof-of-concept to raise awareness and get enough people to tell Mojang to implement it in the game. But you must understand it would be better for everyone if Mojang went ahead and did it themselves. (It's what they're being paid to do.)
It was a pessimistic way of putting it too.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
-The Gods Of The Copybook Headings, by Rudyard Kipling.
No, he is completely right. Greater awareness is mostly insignificant. Mojang knows about Cubic Chunks, and greater awareness will never put Mojang in a position where implementing Cubic Chunks will generate a more economically favorable outcome.
You see, corporations exist to benefit themselves. While this often means giving customers what they want, it is extremely important to recognize that this is only because customers will pay for things that they want.
The problem is that, while people want Cubic Chunks; no one will be paying for it since they have already bought the game, or don't intend on buying it either way.

Curse PremiumLook at double world height. That was a phenomenal breakthrough in Minecraft's play, and yet we now take it for granted as players, in spite of the massive effort required to optimize the system for the doubled height. Why would they put in the exceedingly larger effort to implement Cubic chunks when it would likely fall into the same boat?
Honestly, I say keep it as a mod permanently. People will appreciate it more that way, and it will continue to be a much beloved and discussed topic as long as you keep it updated (and even long after it's died...)
You.... I like you. I'm glad someone else sees the actual problem.
