However, with the depth, I wouldn't mind at all seeing thousands (if not MILLIONS) more meters of depth added to Minecraft. I'm one of those die-hard miners who would spend days months under ground ONLY IF there was enough to explore down there. And, with greater depth, there should be greater foes who inhabit them.
And yes, I am still the Master of Disaster.
I think they're holding out due to simply laziness.
The lighting issue was simply the convenient excuse.
After all, no word from Mojang even though multiple alternate ideas have been offered.
And they've grown complacent.
After all, why put forth the effort if the game is still insanely popular and selling as is?
I think we'd better get used to being ignored.
What I do want and would support is an option during world generation to determine the height limit, the ground height, etc. The setting could be set to infinite if so desired. In order for players to change existing maps they would need to change a setting or something, but the default should remain as it has been since Indev. I personally would use a feature like this to change my worlds height limit to 512 and create beautiful mountains in world painter, but probably not any higher for my purposes.
Thanks for creating this post anyways, I think you have brought more attention to the discussion.
By the way, 100th post! Have a good one.

Curse PremiumTest video you say? =D
Sadly, I agree.
Cuchaz, would you consider placing a link to this suggestion in the thread for your mod?
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Curse PremiumWhat suggestion is that? You mean this thread? Sure, I suppose.
White coats to bind me, out of control
I live alone inside my mind
World of confusion, air filled with noise
Who says that my life's such a crime?
Trapped in this nightmare
I wish I'd wake
As my whole life begins to shake
four walls surround me
an empty gaze
I can't find my way out of this maze
'Cause I don't care
Fall in, fall out
Gone without a doubt, help me
I can't take the blame
They don't feel the shame
It's a madhouse
Or so they claim
It's a madhouse
Oh, am I insane?
My fears behind me, what can I do
My dreams haunt my sleep at night
Oh no, won't learn their lesson, white fills my eyes
And only then they see the light

There is a reason for US to add, but no reason for Mojang to add it. Its a hard to implement this feature vs just adding more content to keep people interested. The lighting issue has been solved, but it was shot down because it basically was not "good enough." The lighting system right now sucks. I don't know how many times I see the terrain ruined by huge dark spots, or like I mentioned earlier with the huge holes in the ground.
Perhaps like... significantly better performance? The current system is so limited that it severely restricts the potential growth of the game, and not just in terms of building heights (fps, latency, etc).
There is more than enough reason for Mojang to add. They are just too busy optimizing things that they should have optimized 3 years ago, rearranging some methods and classes, and copy pasting other modder's code into the vanilla. [sry, have some negative feelings towards Mojang after the last few updates]
I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
I know what you mean, It astounds me they prefer to add things like new flowers when they could implement something like Cubic Chunks.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man

Not just that, but they prefer to add new things like flowers by copy pasting half of them out of someone else's mod. [Horses, slime blocks etc].

Glass: Sunlight (1 block)
OcD Simple Add-On!
But what is their reason for doing it? There is hardly any money to be made vs effort when compared to adding flowers and animals. Even just adding the system without the increased height was shot down. When its implemented like that then there are no required changes to minecraft's current lighting system. What's their excuse for that? Whoever is making the Tall Worlds mod is a god among men. If he pulls it off then I will dedicate an entire 3 minutes yelling his name from the rooftops so that the world may know of his amazingness. Then I will go see how far down I can dig before the police show up.

actually technically you said 1500ft right? so 512 is plenty: 1500ft = 457.20m http://www.metric-co...t-to-meters.htm
and a block in minecraft is one meter cubed :3
wait no you are right, but only by a few blocks Antenna spire 1 WTC: 1,727 ft (526.3 m)
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center)but anyways again what i mean, why would we need it to be over 2000 blocks, thats still epically huge.

Don't like it that high? Either don't build that high or set the build limit lower.
also you should check out Tall Worlds
