Overall, I think this mod is great, and I want to use it, and I 100% support it's usage with vanilla, but... I want to make sure that it will play well with the other mods... How does railcraft chunk loading work with this mod? Does it load a huge vertical chunk in the world which could be thousands of blocks tall, or does it load the area around it....
Thanks for the mod! I hope it gets implemented to vanilla!
Any sort of Chunk loader would load chunks as normal, just it would also load them along the Z axis. So if it loads them in a square, it would load them as a cube now, a circle becomes a sphere, and so on.
Modded ores would have even greater control over generation since the biomes would be cubic as well. This means sky islands could have different ore gen then the surrounding mountains, even if they are at the same height(which the current system primarly uses).
Modded structures would probably be easier to implement since you could treat it as its own biome for the purpose of generation(since biomes are 3d, allowing for things like volcanoe dungeons)
You didn't read the FAQ at all did you?
Are you joking sir? The height limit is too short. No one is complaining about the width and depth of the world. We have plenty of space to build, it is just proportioned wrong.
The whole point of Cubic Chunks is to reduce lag for slower computers like yours. It optimizes one of the core systems of Minecraft, like Optifine. Notch gave Minecraft a good Chunk system to begin with, but this makes it better. Infinite height is just an amazing side effect.
Patience, friend. The world is full of people who aren't as smart as you. Pity them.

Well, thank you. But, I consider being smart different from reading the OP where one's question is answered in bright red letters.
Why did you not bother to read the freaking post? Having cubic chunks REDUCES lag, but it also allows infinite height. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
Anyway, I really hope this will be implemented. I mean, colored glass made it into vanilla, and this is just as popular, AND this has the coding taken care of for the most part, so I don't see why this is not already in vanilla.
I was implying he wasn't smart enough to read the OP.

I know it is a lot of work, but there has been no contact whatsoever and it has taken longer to update than it took to make the mod in the first place so far.
The worse your computer is, the more the lag would be reduced. This is because on smaller render distances it would have to load less up and down stuff.
Every update notch doesn't add this is more
Some people like to support great things like this with single diamonds. I support this by the block!
Glad you like it! However, this is a suggestion for vanilla Minecraft, the mod is just a proof-of-concept. And Notch doesn't work on the game anymore.

Curse PremiumApparently Barteks has found a solution for this that won't lag at all for Y±2,147,483,648 but the OP
stillhasn't been updated with it yeteven though it's been over a month.also you should check out Tall Worlds

Curse PremiumThat still doesn't help explain what I'm supposed to be seeing. Setting the max sunlight at 2,147,483,648 won't fix the issue if I can look up and only see 128 meters. Maybe the render fog comes in to save the day???
I'm sorry if this has been answered already, I just don't see any solution at the moment...
Edit. To be clear, if I look up, I won't see the top of the cave. So the skybox will render, because it's beyond the render distance I have set.... So then, would the sun render as well? Yes... actual lightvalues are also going to be a pain to figure out as well.
I meant that the problem lies in sunlight calculation. Now, the render distance doesn't affect sunlight because it can easily map the entire vertical space.
When you start going infinite, this doesn't work.
What I meant was that it apparently won't lag at all checking up 231 billion blocks, so that just about eliminates the height problem.
I still don't know about what would happen if what's above you has never generated, though I assume it could check the world seed if it's a natural cave or something, since if it's not natural it would have had to have been loaded at some point.
Or something.
also you should check out Tall Worlds

Curse PremiumI think you meant to say that "we found a way to keep track of where the sunlight is, as long as we limit the player to 231 blocks" (or 2 billion... choose one) There is no way you are checking 2 Billion blocks vertically in real time constantly... unless I drastically misunderstood something about the process.
In this case, the most consistent thing to do, is check to see if anything above this chunk exists, and then if nothing exists, and the path is clear, then just let sunlight through (Even if there really is an island floating way up there I guess)
I made a sneak edit though, so sorry, let me copy it:

Curse PremiumConsidering that noone can get their hands on a super stable and complete version of 3-d chunks... I'd say no.
Most of the talent and development seems to be going towards actually making 3d chunks... not using it...
