I still think that the stone layer (The layer between the surface and the bottom where its most stone) should be at least 1000 blocks thick before the stone starts hardening. So you would still have a lot of vertical mining space, but not infinite.
It's something that needs to be thought about.
I would like comments (good or bad) to help me adjust my ideas so that hopefully some one will help me bring them to life.

Seriously though, that type of thing is why we have world types.

I totally agree! Or at least release a version of the mod without the source. I really want to try it out for 1.7.4/1.6.4
1) I don't think what you think matters. You've no authority to dictate what aspects of this idea are to be discussed.
2) It is something that needs consideration were cubic chunks implimented.
3) It helps garner support if someone is provides ideas on how to handle generation.
What do you mean by "just a bedrock layer that can span across y co-ordinates in small hills would be good." ?
WOW rude much. I was just stating my opinion. also if you look at the OP it says and I quot:
Terrain:
By default, nothing will change. Small bits of terrain generation code need to be reconfigured to work properly with Cubic Chunks.
Biomes:
By default, nothing will change.
Ore generation:
By default, nothing will change.
Structures:
By default, nothing will change.
The Void:
After conversion to Cubic Chunks, the void and bedrock layer will still exist and generate as they always have. However, the void(Not the bedrock layer!) will not exist as a hard limit and is able to be moved, but not removed, by editing an associated NBT data tag inside a world's level.dat. This feature, that allows for increasing the maximum depth, is intentionally disabled without external programs, to prevent terrain change of any sort. It is intended to be used by experienced mapmakers and world generation mods only.
Superflat settings:
Existing superflat worlds will not change. However, new superflat worlds will gain a new decoration parameter, 'void'. Inclusion of this parameter will cause the void to form below the lowest defined layer. Exclusion of it will cause all layers below the lowest defined layer to copy the settings of that layer.

If/when this is implemented, via mod or official release, when you create a new world or load a save with the new system, you'll be prompted to a new screen (similar to where you choose bonus chest, world type, etc). On this screen you'll be able to choose what depths ores start appearing. Instead of 16 for Diamond, you could do -150 for it. Or -1500. Or -15000. You could adjust coal to only spawn between -1000 and -2000. This should be something that is easily added to, and easy to use for mods that add new ores such as copper, cobalt, etc.
As well as determining what depths ores can be at, you could add in modifiers for them such as... as you go deeper, they're more frequently in larger veins. Or smaller, even. Imagine that Coal between -1000 and -2000. Closer to the extremes, you'll find veins of 2-5. But closer to -1500, you'll find veins of 130-150. Or at -1000, you'll find veins of 2-5, -1500 veins of 30-50, and closer to -2000 veins of 130-150.
Of course, you could leave it at default, and below 0, everything spawns more or less like it does between 0-16 right now.
Just an idea.
I think something like that should be in "More World Options".

And I was stating mine.
In a fashion that was no less as rude as trying to tell people who feel it is an issue, despite what the OP says, to more or less just shut up.

I can't believe what it is gonna do if, no. WHEN Cubic Chunks gets implemented!
To my knowledge, nothing.
This thread is about cubic chunks, and it's benefits. Support for awesome mods that make world generation have all these cool things is a major benefit. Of course this stuff would not be in vanilla, or if it was it would be togglable. But most of this stuff is probably going to come from mods. Most of the technical stuff is either figured out or too complex for most of the people here to understand or come up with ideas about. If this thread dies then cubic chunks will never be implemented, and the way to keep a thread alive is to have something interesting to discuss. It is important to not scare people off of posting their ideas, even if they are bad or do not belong, because that is what will make people post here, and the more people post here the more people will see it. You should be able to figure out what happens from there.I think somebody needs to take over development of the mod, it does not look like Bartex2X is getting anywhere.
