Sounds more like the lighting engine isn't built for fantastic lighting, which I guess is just how things are. Good luck on figuring it out
Pray tell, how is that a horrible idea?

Curse PremiumThe issue with the nether isn't sunlight.
One point of this idea is to reduce the amount of minichunk data that has to be sent to the clients, so you can use the same amount of data to send a longer horizontal distance, and less vertical distance. But in the nether, you don't have anything that you can remove/cull out, as a general rule.
So you have more overhead and no real gain.
Now consider a world / landscape added by a mod that has "amplified"-style landscape, with deep oceans or other crevices -- and this sort of behavior can happen without a bedrock roof, and with open/unrestricted construction.
(It is, or was, possible to get out of the nether with a piston bug pushing you through the bedrock. I don't know if this still happens in 164 or not.)

(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

Yeah, I expected that and was planning on doing that but thank you for clarifying everything in case. He usually doesn't even log in here anymore to check PMs unless I communicate a good reason to him for him to do so.
In the mean-time; here are some links again that I posted here a while back in case anyone might still find them useful:

Some questions: Is normal modloader required for the 1.0.0 CC server, and if so, is the file you sent me universal? Is forge compatible with the 1.0.0 CC?
Question for everybody: Would you all fancy extra goodies within the modpacks, like Industrialcraft etc, or would you just prefer a clean CC install w/ modloader and stuff?
A clean CC install would be nice to start out, though I'm not picky. I'm just excited to give this a try!
I would prefer a clean CC. Personally (and I don't mean to insinuate that you would add such crappy mods) whenever Ive used a mod(pack), there'll be some completely OP cow manure item(s) that are their for little kids who can't appreciate the fun of a challenge. Perfect example: Ninja Mod. How cool would 忍者
be in Minecraft, right? But, no! They went and made DIAMOND-TIER ARMOR OUT OF BLOODY LEATHER AND INK SACKS!!! I mean, come on! Diamond-tier protection from some of the most abundant resources in the game?!? @[email protected]%#@$%@$%@$%@$%%@#$^#%$^#$%^@!$^^%*$&&%*^#@#%#&&%^(#@$%^*%#$%&^#@%$#$&%^%$!!!!!!!!!
UGH! Why can't I find it ANYWHERE!!! (Been looking literally for an hour)
On a side note, I have managed to get all client versions of CC are working properly on the classic environment. That includes both 1.7.3 versions, 1.8.1, and 1.0.0.
