Completely backwards compatible. Just like when MCRegion was converted to Anvil format, actual blocks aren't affected.
Indeed, here's mine of a savanah biome:

There are two numbers. Could one be something *special*?
I think that's a chunk list.
An issue that was brought up was compatibility with Xbox and mobile platforms not having the power to support CC. I get that it reduces lag and all that jazz but the fact remains that they're still not up to the task of running minecraft optimally as is, so CC isn't that much better for them.
My proposal is one that surfaced quite some time ago (april fools?) about minecraft 2.
This sounds terrible at first until you consider CC and what could be done with redesigning the engine minecraft uses. It was pointed out that Java was relatively inneficient as a gaming platform and that other options can't be considered as minecraft is now. With CC it opens the possibility to introduce a new engine under the minecraft hood and allow for CC to work to it's fullest while delivering us a better minecraft overall. Instead of 'duct-taping' the minecraft we have now to be better, why not re-build it from the ground up? isn't it time for Mojang to upgrade?
If any of this is incorrect then my mistake but that's my 2 cents.
Remaking the whole game from scratch would take too long. People would lose interest in the game because Mojang would put all their effort into making a new engine. Besides, the Xbox/Pocket edition are fine without cubic chunks.
I hope the savanna flattens out, like this savanna I made a while ago in Worldpainter using a custom tree layer and the desert biome.
I really do hope Mojang will take the initiative to add even more biomes when (or if) CC is added. Though I can see that it may take some updates before this happens.
That super mountainous savanna was generated with the "Amplified" world type in the snapshot. It does the same thing to plains biomes. I'm sure the normal world type savanna biome is fine.
Indeed. My main point was that it looked awesome all around. There's a gigantic circular valley with a lake and gigantic waterfalls, plus a small cove nearby.

Ah, thank you. It did indeed look awsome.
This is Dinnerbone we're talking about. The Mojang Troll. In any case, its good to know that they know about it.
I think they do, and they're just trying to hide it. This newest development (Dinnerbone's tweet) is a very important step in the right direction. Mojang has officially acknowledged the existence of the suggestion, and in this case, what they don't say is just as important as what they do. They have not said that they wont implement it, and they have revealed that they are thinking about the idea. We have presented our evidence, and they have not turned the idea down. Remember, they didnt say anything about horses until they started working on implementing them. Here, they have already said that they recognize the idea, and that is very good for us.
This is VERY good. This is one of the first major things that happens on the road to Cubic Chunks. There isn't much I can say that Moriki didn't already say.
However, I think the next major thing will be the release of the Cubic Chunks mod, (which will strengthen our position) or Mojang confirming or denying they will add it to Minecraft. (In which case we either declare they are the most wonderful human beings to ever walk the face of the Earth or declare war.)
Or they may just put it off by saying they may add it in the future or they want to work on "more important things first."
(Flowers and fishes.
In which case we explain how Cubic Chunks is better than anything else they could possibly add, which could be somewhat tricky.
(And it is certainly better than flowers and fishes.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

The fact that DB tweeted about Cubic Chunks implies that Mojang has given it a great deal of consideration.
All in all, the future is relatively bright, especially since Australia is going to have a semi-competent leader starting tomorrow!
I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
YAY!
