Yes, but overall the feel of it is more or less maintained. Changes are not supposed to detract from realism in terms of Minecraft; they are supposed to support it.
Let me put it into more direct terms, since you're trying to attack my wording instead of my meaning. I thought I did that already, but you outright ignored it.
What I'm saying is that for me to support it, all of the basic Minecraft physics must be maintained. Light and gravity are the two biggest ones that have problems right now. These are two things that make up "Minecraft realism" that I would not give up for any reason at all.

For those who complain about post-Beta generation, you might want to see this.
Yeah! That would be awesome! =D
Sum them up in less than one page, please. I don't have the time or patience to sit through 229 pages of points, especially in thread form.
I can see the benefits of switching to cubic chunks as outlined on the first page. Are there any more? I can see the detriments of keeping linear chunks as outlined on the first page. Are there any more?
Because as outlined on the first page, for me, the problems outweigh the benefits.

The OP evolved and grew as discussion occurred in the thread; it pretty much is the "one page or less" summary that you are looking for.
By reading the pages you will find some more specific technical details and so on, but you probably won't find any significant discussion that is not summarized in the OP.
In other words, there are probably more advantages and disadvantages to both systems, but if it is important; you will find it in the OP.
@ problems outweighing benefits...
It really comes down to one simple thing; the issues that arise with Cubic Chunks are non-issues within the scope of the vanilla game. You want to jump off of a 1000 block tall building, but disagree with the only way you're going to get the opportunity to do this? Logical contradiction = invalid argument. You don't want to jump off of a 1000 block tall building in the first place? False logic = you have no argument. As for lighting; it only raises itself as an issue in the most extreme of situations, none of which are likely to ever occur within the scope of the vanilla game.
Long story short - the down sides that you have mentioned really only occur in situations which fall outside of the scope of this suggestion. Cubic Chunks suggestion does not involve changes to terrain generation or anything like that. It simply improves the performance of the game, and opens up opportunities for the game to improve in ways that are simply not possible under the linear chunk system.
I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
If Calacbolg copy pasted "Mojang Plz" 1500 times into the OP, then it would be pretty close
I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
Because swimming up waterfalls is very realistic...
LIES! It's possible in Minecraft, so therefore it must be possible in real life!

Lol, what would their popularity be useful for?
Mojang has known about this idea for a long time. I don't think "raising awareness" will accomplish anything useful here.
What this idea needs are talented modders to write the code. Feel free to write some code for us instead of looking for popular people. We're up to about four contributing developers now.
If I wanted to help contribute, how would I go about doing it. Do you guys have a repo that you work off of?
Think about it this way: its a whole lot easier for Mojang to say "We'll wait for a solution," on a suggestion 2-3k supporters compared to a suggestion with 2-3 million supporters. Besides, not everyone knows how to code, and having millions of people supporting this, and putting pressure on Mojang simply by the fact that they know about it does help, at least a little.
We do. Our mod is completely open source. The only trouble is, I need to work out some licensing details before I can actually release the new mod loader (Magic Mojo Mod Loader) that is needed to make the mod run. If you can wait a little bit, I'll get these issues sorted and then I can distribute the mod and all its necessary components to developers far and wide. =)
