Awesome! One of the best ideas I've ever read! I would really like it because:
They aren't some retarded overpowered Gryphon that you can use to kill a Dragon or something ridiculous like that.
They're optional, in the sense they're not like a commonly spawned mob that runs around rapidly.
Not to complain, but it seems that tis is getting a bit underpowered. Lets take an example, a pvp battle, just a random one in the middle of nowhere, lets go over anti-gryphon tactics. You get hit with an arrow, you look around, see the gryphon, light a fire, get a bow with knock back, knock the other player of the gryphon and if they are alive you go over and finish them off. Over all, not very appealing for the person with the gryphon. I do love the idea but I think it's getting a bit under powered.
Hm... Thanks for pointing this out. We have to be careful we don't take balance too far. If put together, a bunch of the ideas that are intended for balance would indeed make Gryphons under-powered. But if Mojang does add Gryphons (WHEN Mojang adds Gryphons ), i'm confident that they would pick and choose the best combination oh ideas. I doubt they would add everything that we are suggesting, but rather the ones that go best together.
when you start punching an egg in real life it will crack
This is true.
You know... IonicTiger had said something about needing Silk Touch as well. Perhaps Silk Touch would be the way to go as far as gathering an egg goes.
Hm on the other hand, you can punch glass blocks to pick them up... So an egg wouldn't have to break if punched, but there should be some special way to gather them...
I'm pretty sure that the only people who would like pegusi are bronies and little girls. And while your at it, why not make all the bronies happy and add unicorns and tiny little purple dragons that burp written books and eat all of your diamonds and emeralds.
Let's go with gryphons please Mojang.
Sounds good to me. . .
Also, the dragon that eats your gems will be a really interesting mechanic! Also, there was a gryphon on the show once, she was kinda a [not nice person] though.
But in all seriousness, Mojang is not going to get license for MLP. So Gryphons it is!
great idea but maybe in the nests there could be an adult wild grefen protecting the egg/eggs and you would havto defeat it to get to the eggs. Also one big ishue with breaking the eggs for normally when you start punching an egg in real life it will crack so you havto pic up the grifen egg with a silck tuch tool or incubate on the spot
The logical idea is that you break the nest instead of the egg

I do not care about your dragon, I will not click it, it is not real, and I hope it dies in a fire.
I just read your "wall of text" and I'm really impressed At first I just thought "Oh another of those flying retard op-creatures". But now I think it's awesome! I'm building a RPG-Server at the moment and this would be one of those end game treasures players could earn, without it being overpowered. I really like it! Anyway... Why do you want it to be added by Mojang, when you can just create a mod, adding gryphons and maybe some other rare flying mounts (I know probably not your intention but I would like it ). Anyway good Idea and I wish you the best of luck!!!
Edit: Maybe add armor like they did with horses
Thank you for all your support of the idea and for wishing us the best of luck. And yes there should definitely be Gryphon armor.
As for why we want Mojang to add Gryphons to vanilla... It's somewhat complicated. One of the reasons is that many players, including myself, don't like having to download and setup mods. Another is simply that Mojang has a very unique style and they tend to keep things balanced yet fun. Now, that being said, i know that modders do amazing jobs as well, and i'm not trying to slight them.
It's not so much that we don't want to see Gryphons as a mod. It's more that our vision is for them to be put in vanilla by Mojang.
Outstanding! Love it, but would prefer the ability to use in combat. Such as putting on sharper talons.
Thanks! Hm yes sharpened talons/claw armor/blades are some ideas that have been floating around here. Those may be good ideas. But keep in mind that even without them, a skilled Gryphon rider would still be able to kick some major butt.
I suggest that the Gryphon doesn't last forever, just a long time. Also, the Gryphons should become weaker with age and have less health, move slower, or be more afraid of things. If the last few days of the Gryphons life it shouldn't be able to fly and only be able to barely move, and when it dies it will leave some sort of hint leading the player to find another Gryphon nest. Maybe when it dies it falls in the direction of the nest or looks towards it or whatever. Just a general idea, and if a nest's egg was already stolen then Gryphons won't locate that certain nest when they die. As it gets older it should require more and more food, and have to take regular breaks while flying. It should be so that the Gryphon is a little weak while young then it gets stronger then weak again. I love the thought of flying on my Gryphon, then it starts getting dark and you have to set up camp for the night because your Gryphon is getting tired. Also the higher you fly in a storm the bigger the chance of getting hit and falling. If the Gryphon gets too hungry and there is no animals or food around, then it will die.

I have to disagree with this idea...can you imagine if one day your wolves started to weaken and die of old age? That wouldn't be very fun, would it?
Also one big ishue with breaking the eggs for normally when you start punching an egg in real life it will crack so you havto pic up the grifen egg with a silck tuch tool or incubate on the spot
Can you cut down trees with your fist?
Punching is Minecraft's shorthand for handling blocks with your hands.
Just one thing that I was thinking about... Head over to the Mo Creatures suggestion forum and post your suggestion (Gryphons are allready suggested) there with a link to this thread. And then EVERYONE who supports gryphons in Minecraft votes it up there. DrZhark will see it and possibly add it. (You can disable all other mobs included with this mod) I know you don't want to set up mods etc., but it would be just one mod and it's really easy to set it up (It is more likely that DrZhark (also he works with Mojang at the moment) adds it, than Mojang will because just imagine how long it took until they finally implemented horses )
We have already discussed this option, and determined that it would be sub optimal.
This is awesome, and also balanced. Full support. Shouldn't adult griffins be at the nests? When you try and break the egg, the adult will attack you. Not sure if this was already suggested on this topic, though.

You have a very interesting and creative idea here. I support it in every way, except for the fact that it would not seem like something that would be added into vanilla Minecraft. As a mod, it would work out and be very popular for sure, but as part of vanilla, it just would not seem right. Anyway, you have made some very nice models and pictures. Great suggestion

The thing about Minecraft is, well, it's always evolving, ever changing. What we define as "vanilla Minecraft" could be completely stood on its head next Thursday.
But that's the thing; Mindcraft will never stay the same. The things that we picture as fitting into vanilla Minecraft are simply the things that are familiar, that we know. We know cows, we know creepers. But what if the made cows blue? Or made creepers explode in a shower of cookies? Would we scream that neither of those things fit into Minecraft as we know it? Of course! But, once they're added, what could we do? Boycott Minecraft? I wouldn't. It would be... strange, at first. But then, we'd get use to it. They'd be excepted into Minecraft.
Look at witches. Or bats. Or the hunger bar system. Or ocelots. Or beacons. Or zombie villagers. Or emeralds and trading.
All of these things were said not to have fitted into vanilla Minecraft at the time, but now... can you picture Minecraft without them? Or course, more than a few players dream nostalgically about "old" Minecraft, but if you went back and played it that way, it might seem... wrong. Things that, even though you might hate, have become familiar and have become part of the Minecraft "family," gone. It would be, just a tad, weird.
My point is this: what Minecraft is becoming, and what Minecraft will become, is something that we will never, ever, guess. The road of Minecraft leads to a thousand worlds, few of which we could imagine. So, even though something might not seem being able to fit into Minecraft at the moment, it doesn't mean that it'll never fit into Minecraft. If they added a flying purple hippopotamus that burped pizzas and rainbows, give it a week, a month, six months, or a year, even that would grow to fit Minecraft.
First, thank you to all of the people who have just given us their support or complimented our idea. There are too many for me to specifically quote and thank today.
Don't be sorry. I'm happy that you like our suggestion enough to want to help =D
I have a question though... You said that Gryphons were already suggested there? Do you happen to know any details about it?
Were OUR Gryphons suggested, or just Gryphons in general?

Yes, I do like that concept. Seems fitting.
Oh that's cool, first one on page 29!
