Thossssse are sssssome nice catsssss you have there.”Haha, I do have cats. You can’t come near me now!" HAHAHAHAH BOOOOOM!!! The only creeper in the world not afraid of cats just had to find you, didn’t it.
It has been stated many times that implementation red dragons would be horrendously difficult. The only reason the ender dragon works is that it can destroy/fly through blocks. A red dragon (in over world) would need incredibly complex systems to avoid clipping with the terrain. While a much smaller Gryphon doesn't have the same limitation.
Now I would love to have a dragon, I have always wanted them, but the technical problems mean that we will not see dragons in the overworld for a very long time.
Great work, you did a good job balancing it. Would the Griffin grow tired from flying? That would help balance it.
PPS I totally support! My little brother is learning about mythical creatures like Centaurs, Minotaurs, different types of Gryphons (I use Griffins) and more, so (go to first sentence in this paragraph then come back) Woo! Absolutely! r0ck 0n!
Yeah i've got to agree with zeel. I also love dragons, they're one of my favorite mythological creatures but i just can't see Mojang ever adding them. Dragons are just way too powerful. Not to mention all of the mechanical troubles such as clipping that zeel mentioned. Their wing span would be massive!
Why not just make a Gryphon Egg on Gryphon Towers?
PS The flight is way balanced. I also like pinballboy7's idea on balancing it:

Thanks for your support! Gryphon towers... Do you mean like a spire? if so, that's something that some of the supporters have been wanting too.
Haha that is awesome that you are teaching your little brother about mythical creatures. Don't forget to warn him about sirens and their songs!
As a bit of an add-on to the "fear of fire" thing, I think that if they catch on fire (Like if they are shot with a flame bow), they should just fly around randomly in a panic, possibly even throwing off the rider. If they see a water source in this state, the will dash towards it, desperate to put themselves out.
I think that if he is adding horses, why not gryphons as well? Especially if he is adding a flying mount, I don't want to see horses becoming to much like mo' creatures (They already have the same model, armor texture and animations) I would much prefer a gryphon to a pegasus.
Maybe the gryphons should have to run forward for a little before taking off. And I like the idea of them spawning in a tower/spire thing. Maybe there should be more variations to the gryphon texture? Like how there are like 35 combinations of horses, maybe there could be a few different textures with the gryphon.
Anyways, I definitely support this idea, I hope it gets added into the game! +1
EDIT: I just had another idea. What if the were temporarily slowed after passing through water? This makes sense, as it would dampen their feathers, but I don't know if it would start to under-power them since they already should be weak to fire, but it's just a suggestion.

Hmmm. That would be quite interesting.
It would make air-to-ground much riskier for the rider, and air-to-air combat would be even more complex.
Maybe, if gryphon armour could be enchanted, fire-resistance would lessen their fear fire, but never completely, but it would prevent a gryphon from going completely mental if it was hit with a fire arrow. And, like on its human counterpart, the aforementioned enchantment would also decrease to amount of time it would take for fire to extinguished.

Amazing idea!!
I love it Gryphons are amazing!
How about a weapon for someone to use against them?
like a big fire torch that has long range to hit gryphons with
and about wild gryphons, what if when you kill them you get a gryphon wing, maybe used to make the anti-gryphon weapon?

Thank you for your support. As for the dampened feather idea:
That might make sense. Wolves get soaking wet if they go in water and have to shake it off, so it wouldn't be anything too complex for Mojang to add. They'd just have to add a slow effect. And i don't think it would make Gryphons under powered, as long as it didn't last very long and it didn't slow down the Gryphon too much.

Hmm... I don't think there would have to be a specific new anti-Gryphon weapon, but rather just new anti-Gryphon tactics. Such as setting blocks on fire and hiding behind them with a bow and arrow at the ready, or even building a simple cobblestone bunker just big enough to fit the player inside of, with one block taken out to act as a window for the player to shoot their bow out of.

I think that the dragon idea isn't too bad either. Anything of this nature- flying mythological creature- works. The point is the mechanics of it. It could be a manticore or a wyvren or dragon or whatever, It could be a redstone powered flying machine, as long as it was balanced.
Awesome! One of the best ideas I've ever read! I would really like it because:
They aren't some retarded overpowered Gryphon that you can use to kill a Dragon or something ridiculous like that.
They're optional, in the sense they're not like a commonly spawned mob that runs around rapidly.
Not to complain, but it seems that tis is getting a bit underpowered. Lets take an example, a pvp battle, just a random one in the middle of nowhere, lets go over anti-gryphon tactics. You get hit with an arrow, you look around, see the gryphon, light a fire, get a bow with knock back, knock the other player of the gryphon and if they are alive you go over and finish them off. Over all, not very appealing for the person with the gryphon. I do love the idea but I think it's getting a bit under powered.

I do not care about your dragon, I will not click it, it is not real, and I hope it dies in a fire.
I really like the idea, but I see Mojang being more likely to implement pegasi rather than gryphons, seeing as they've already implemented horses.
I'm pretty sure that the only people who would like pegusi are bronies and little girls. And while your at it, why not make all the bronies happy and add unicorns and tiny little purple dragons that burp written books and eat all of your diamonds and emeralds.

great idea but maybe in the nests there could be an adult wild grefen protecting the egg/eggs and you would havto defeat it to get to the eggs. Also one big ishue with breaking the eggs for normally when you start punching an egg in real life it will crack so you havto pic up the grifen egg with a silck tuch tool or incubate on the spot
