The process of hatching and raising the gryphon is way too complicated and redundant. I'd much prefer a much more simple approach that anyone playing the game can figure out without consulting a wiki.
They aren't going to add gryphons. A more realistic approach would be baby enderdragons or pegasi.
I don't see how pegasi are any more/less realistic than gryphons. As for baby enderdragons, that wouldn't really work if there's only 1, it would suck on multiplayer.

You misunderstood me. I meant a more plausible request.

Still doesn't really explain your argument. Why would pegasi be more plausible to add than gryphons? Both would require the same amount of work (creating a new model, texture, and AI). Both are mythological creatures so it's not like people will say "gryphons don't fit in Minecraft, add pegasi instead". And baby enderdragons, if anything, would be less plausible because of the multiplayer problem, and because Jeb already has a plan for the Dragon Egg which probably contradicts the hatching feature.
But whatever that's just my opinion.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I might be able to use a bow from a Gryphon's back; I've pulled a few decent jumping shots. It would be completely possible to have air-fights, but it would be quite a challenge. I'd only use it to fight off mobs, though, unless someone specifically challenged me to an air fight. This would, however, make acquiring Discs slightly easier (Hover above the creeper and the skeleton; they'll stand so close to each other in pursuit at you that the Skele will eventually kill the Creep).
I support this idea 75% (EDITED. REASON: "No Walking". Change that and I'll change this [back].)
Also, when/if this gets implemented someone's BOUND to make a Gilda skin for the Gryphon
I support this idea! Gryphons should be able to be in mc and there should be different colours and breeds, you should put the model up for download incase anyone wants to make a mod or something for it
Just putting my two cents in, but i don't seem to have an use for a gryphon even if they were added, it'd just be like the ender dragon but with realistic flaps and obviously decreased size (except the journey) so i'll just have to say i don't support, though it's a nice idea.
The new Elytra have some interesting implications. We now have non-powered flight available in survival, this could be a fantastic upgrade to powered flight.

I love the idea! The only things I would change would be where the griffin would spawn. They could still rarely spawn in extreme hills, but it makes more sense for griffins to be found in a more mythical and mysterious, while still elevated biome. Luckly, minecraft already has a biome that almost perfectly fits into this description: Roofed Forest M (mega). Incase you don't know what that is, it is a variation of the roofed forest biome (a biome consisting of mushrooms big and small, as well as dark oak trees) which is much more hilly (pretty much what happens when a extreme hills biome meets with a roofed forest biome). If you want to learn more about the biome, click on this link: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Biome and search through the lush biomes. You will eventually find the roofed forest mega. I think everything else should be the same, like how the griffin spawns on cliffs and stuff like that.
I love this idea. A way to fly around at least somewhat on a giant furry/feathery beast would give my life meaning.
I do think that maybe there ought to be varying skins, though. Not all gryphons resemble bald eagles. Some are black, some are white, some are gray, some are golden-brown. And I'm tired of getting all my dogs and cats mixed up even with three different skins (for cats) and dyeable collars (for dogs) and name tags. If I were, on the off chance, able to get more than one I would like some other way to tell them apart. Plus, in servers, the more skin variations there are the easier it would be to know whose gryphon is whose.
It would be kind of neat if gryphons had their own AI that let them go off and do things on their own, maybe fly down to a nearby lake or shoreline and catch a fish or two or preen themselves, maybe fly around and dive-bomb nearby mobs or other players to just startle them a bit, send them running. (This would actually be a really neat way to spot an adult gryphon, rare as they are, and maybe pinpoint a general location of where its nest might be since I don't see why it would stray too far from the nest.) It wouldn't get too far away from the player, but it wouldn't just sit around or stay on its perch all day either, or only move when the player moves. Maybe it could be possible to craft a whistle or something to call it back when you need it if it's out and about doing its thing.
That's the thing about tamable mobs, their AI needs to be expanded. Dogs and cats don't just sit around or move (pretty much) only when you move, they run around and chase things and maybe leave your line of sight for a bit but they (almost) always come back again. Minecraft mobs do...not very much of anything. Kind of makes everything seem a bit...dead. If gryphons were added into vanilla Minecraft, showcasing them would be a good way to bring attention to those changes to the AI.
Maybe it would be possible to add armor to a gryphon, if they might ever be expanded to also participate in combat, but probably only against hostile mobs in the area or mobs or players that attack you. If they were ever to be expanded in such a manner, I could imagine them having high Health and Attack stats. No better way to deter a griefer on a server if he knows you have a gryphon lying in wait.

I completely agree with this post. Griffons should totally have multiple skins and putting armor on them would be awesome (particularly for combat) I'm a bit worried that having them automatically going off and doing their own thing might put them at risk of getting killed by a hostile mob/player. Maybe it could be that they do fly off but won't go more than x amount of blocks away from your base (assuming that you built a nest there or something) without having you with them. I definitely agree that AI for dogs and cats needs to be better and adding griffons could give the developers more motivation to do something about it.
