I know this isn't terribly creative (hurr BuildCraft hurr) but with all these hoppers and stuff being added recently, I think we should have item pipes. Why? Because I think that it would make transporting items over a short distance a lot easier than using chest minecarts.
The stuff:
Basic pipe:
(8)
This is the basic transportation pipe for items. It only lets items flow in one direction (this direction is determined by the direction of the pump pipe that pushed the item). It can INPUT items into any inventory block. If an item goes 15 blocks without a Pump Pipe, it will start clogging up the pipes. This can be solved with the wrench. If the pipes do not connect to an inventory, the items will drop out at the end pipe.
(can contain a max of 16 items at one time)
Pump Pipe:
(1)(Bucket is a placeholder for the pipe)
This is required once every 15 pipes in order to push an item through. It requires a redstone signal, otherwise the items will remain in the pump. It faces one direction. This direction determines the flow of the items. It can input OR output items into/from any inventory block.
(can contain a max of 64 items at one time)
Ender Pipe:
(2)
This pipe attaches to the end of a normal pipe. You change its frequency by right clicking and accessing the GUI. In the GUI, you can also determine whether it sends or receives items. While an infinite number of pipes can send on one frequency, only one pipe can receive per frequency. If an item travels through the ender pipe and is sent without any pipes to receive it, it is sent into the void.
(can contain a max of 16 items at one time)
Dispenser/Dropper Pipe:
(1) (Bucket is a pipe, dispenser is a dispenser or a dropper.)
This pipe is basically the same as a dispenser or dropper, except it automatically fires/drops an item inside of it when it has a redstone signal (1 item per redstone tick).
(can contain a max of 128 items at one time)
Detector Pipe:
(1) (Once again, the bucket is a pipe.)
This pipe outputs a redstone signal the same length as a detector rail when an items passes through it. Handy for powering pump, dispenser, and dropper pipes.
(can contain a max of 16 items at one time)
Wrench:
(1)
Used to break every type of pipe (Rhyming yo!). If items have been clogged up in the pipes, then they will drop out when the pipe is broken.
Pipes have been suggested before. Many times before. And as Mojang has said they aren't interested in making things full automated this isn't going to happen.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Humanity is the creation of Logic and Emotion, Calculation and Imagination, Cold Analysis and Blind Faith. This is why I believe it is a strange Human that would prize one while shunning the other. For a calculator can do math just as well as you, but a calculator can not use math to make the world a better place.
Its possible to make transport stuff in vannila with hoppers and water and ice. etc
Yes, but a fully automated transport system takes a very long time to set up and has a high resource cost, let alone the complexities of upward transport. That said, the game isn't meant to play itself, and I don't support high levels of automation without a hefty price tag.

Any suggestions or problems?
...with all the prettiness of a burnt baby. I'll support basic, pump, and detector pipes, but dispensor/dropper pipes are redundant.
Really ugly to look at, though.
