And other meat/staple-ridden spawns. Maybe it's been suggested. Hope I'm not repeating an old idea. But it seems sometimes those necessity spawns are just too far away to lure with wheat, or whatever else is needed now, and guide them at a snail's pace over mountain, valley and many times ocean. So! A cage. Capture one breedable... it goes into your inventory as an "egg" so to speak. Or maybe directly as those eggs we see in INVedit. Take it home at your leisurely runspeed... drop it off... go back and get a mate for it.
Recipe could be Iron fencing placed in the workbench all furnace-like.
That's something Minecraft is lacking for sure, some mods have approached that using ropes or just by been able to put the chicken in your head (that would be a little ridicoulos with a cow) with right click if you have bare hands or using some item. Maybe they should just allow you to carry baby animals in your hands/head from one place to another. Either way, I support the general idea of having a way to carry animals from one place to another, beside it would make exploration way more interesting, since now you have an excuse to maybe travel thought an ocean to find a Jungle to bring an Ocelot with you, etc.
But how would you transport the cage via mine cart or in your inventory?
The same way you do a boat... in your pocket It's a cage. An Item. Like a pick. Pull it out, right click the animal, they go into your INV as a spawn egg. Run home, throw the egg in the pen you mentioned earlier. To limit things and make it interesting, one animal per cage. Let's just say the cage is single-use, too. The animal was mad and ruined it during transport... Mad ol' chicken.
Not that bad of an idea, but being able to carry around chickens in cages as inventory items is a smidge overpowered. Almost like walking around with a chicken spawn egg. We can already make them breed and lead them in fenced areas with ease.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.

How overpowered. It'd take quite a bit of iron. Considering. For the transport of one animal. One spawn egg producing one animal. Cage is ruined.Seems fair. If chickens are leagues away. By boat.
EDIT: And I say chickens because they are ruh-HEALLY beneficial... what with arrow necessities and what not. No chickens? No arrows. And since "Normal" is the new "Hard," well.... who wants to drag a flock of somethings for 3 MC days across 37 creepers, 42 spiders, 22 zombies, and 18 skeletons? Not to mention it's dark... walking backwards.

I guess that's a lot more balanced than I made it out to be. Still a bit in grey area about whether I support this or not.
Make their arrows sticking around in the ground and walls grab-able, and you have a deal! So!... Support? HA! Cheers...
EDIT: They just don't drop the arrows, if at all, needed to build up a creeper arsenal. I do run around in the mornings, after they've burned in the sun a minute... collecting what I can. They really do help trees grow in a pinch though.

I'm not trying out for Marine Corps Basic. I'm playing Minecraft.

Again, a "smidge" overpowered.
