So I was working on my plugin and had an idea that would allow it to be awesomer... Then I realized the idea could actually be a very complicated amazing redstone mechanic. So basically its a redstone torch, that has a notch on the side allowing its outputing signal strength to be changed, sound simple? Thats just the start of what it could do. Its a redstone torch, so it inverts power right? No. When it gets power through the back of the block its on, it subtracts that strength from its strength and outputs that. I know what you're thinking.. The comparator does that, and how is this useful?
Currently if you want a 3 signal, you make a lever/torch, with a 12 long wire coming from it.. that takes a lot of space. With this, you just put it there, set it to 3.. and bam. You have a compact 3 strength wire. And for the subtracting feature, yes the comparator can do it. But this is meant for more of an On/Off type thing.. like what the normal torch has. It's just a way to make this different, and also useful.
I also have a possible other idea for what happens when it is powered from behind.. maybe it could replace its current signal strength with that signal strength.. By replace, i don't mean its notch position is reset, I mean it outputs that signal.. allowing for you to override it. Now thats something the comparator can't (simply) do.
Thanks for reading my post...

Edit: An idea for a crafting recipe is a normal redstone torch recipe, with a nether quarts either beside or above the redstone.
I always thought compact signal reduction should be accomplished via a kind of resistor that would function like a repeater but reduce signal strength...
But your idea isn't too bad.

This way is more compact, and has slightly more uses (And has the redstone torch connectivity)

I prefer the resistor, myself! Repeaters are pretty intuitive to use, and the concept of a resistor with eight or so possible settings seems like it would be easier to use than a custom version of a torch.
You can do this easily by using a comparator in subtraction mode. And I don't think they should add too much Redstone components/complex components that does anything in 1 block to make things easier.
Sorry, no support

The point of this was to be compact, and have the ability to send power in a lot more ways.. Which is what torches can do. Also, my secondary idea bit is probably better than my subtract one..
