Really good idea, especially the valve idea, it fits in with the minecraft universe well and it could work, maybe to make them less expensive you use a stick like crafting pattern, also maybe being able to transport items in them would be nice.
I like the crafting template. The cost can be reduced by getting multiple pipes from a single use. If it wasn't the case, pipes would be prohibitively expensive.
Copper would make pipes a lot better, since it would be a lower tier, and hence theoretically more common.
I don't think transferring items along them makes sense. You don't stick a breastplate into a pipe and get it out the other end.
Maybe a pump can be toggled between 3 modes the same way a door is opened and closed. This way you can set it to pump fluid from one direction then switch back if you got too much, and then turn it off when you're done.
That's a simple way, yeah. Maybe the entire pipe could turn a bit bluer (now this is reminding me of Sim City 2000). It would then be easy to tell which pipes are used from afar.
i would be good if he adds rain, and 1nce i maide t water fall near my castle so i could put my things to chest but i was a bit to far right so it ended up all in my castle cus i haddent finnsished, if their were pipes i could put them on my castle and it would run down sides not down my stairs
I would so love the addition of pipes and pumps to be added so we could get more realistic and less unlimited blob-like water. If we have access to sump pumps if you accidentally or a grief-er floods your cave all you do is fire up the pump drain enough water out to get in and patch the hole.
I was more disappointed with the "New" water then I was when playing infdev with no water physics

I've sent notch a suggestion about a hybrid water scheme that combines flowing water with volumized water. Basic idea is that water defaults to having a set volume, but large enough quantities of water flowing over a cliff turn it into the flowing water we have now, so it can form waterfalls and streams, then at the end of the waterfall it is converted back to a volumized water, so it forms pools and lakes. This would behave extremely nicely, is easy to code, and easy on the CPU, and would work wonderfully with pipes. A pool of water would always be volumized, so if you cut off the waterfall/river feeding it, it has a specific, limited volume and could be pumped/bailed out out.
We'll see if notch cares.

Yeah I know a lot of people are unhappy with the current water. The current system seems great for creative but ultimately licking for survival. What do you think of spring veins being added to create natural waterfalls and rivers?

With the system I proposed there is no such thing as a spring. A sufficiently large (probably means a 2x2 or a 2x3 of full water, but might need to be 2 blocks deep as well) pool of water will act as a source for waterfalls and rivers. You can't create a waterfall with a single bucket of water, but it is possible to fill a small lake, then break that open to create your own waterfall.
Wouldn't a volume of a 2X2 or 2X3 pool be rather small and just drain though? At least it should anyway. One block of water should only be able to fill one block, two to fill two, and so on up until you get massive lakes and oceans then would you get water that can flow without draining.

I surely hope notch adds this.

Curse PremiumThat was the point of the sections with a glass window, and the indicator pipes. The first is probably just a pipe with one iron replaced by glass.

Curse PremiumIt does, for the most part. It has a couple of extra pieces to give you more control.
