. My idea today is one I posted a year ago, but the post had too many other ideas, so it got locked. This is one of the most liked ideas by me and others, so I am reviving it, although a bit changed. It is THE SAPLING OF LIGHT. To craft it:
. You put 4 glowstone blocks in the sides, 4 torches onto the corners, and ANY sapling in the middle, and it will become a sapling of light.
. If you plant a sapling of light it will grow into a light tree in about the time a normal tree takes to grow. The leaves of this tree glow at level 10 light, and the logs glow at level 8 light. The tree only drops normal saplings though. The leaves will glow after being harvested, and the logs also will. However, planks made from this wood do not glow, and are the same color as the normal wood planks. It can also grow on glowstone and soul sand, making it a tree that is somewhat nether-tolerant. It also does not catch on fire from lava.
Why would you need a tree in the nether when you can get one from the overworld?
They work in the overworld too. I just think that there should be a tree that can grow in the nether without any overworld materials (oher than the sapling used to craft it, an the sticks for the torches. (Coal is obtainable in the nether thanks to wither skelingtons)).

The nether is supposed to be hard to live in. It's hell, not a tropical paradise.
Ok everyone here seems to think this is supposed to be mainly a nether tree, it is not. The only thing about it and the nether is that it can survive there as well as an ordinary tree survives in the overworld. This tree is MAINLY for in the overworld, as lighting and decoration.
I could see growing crystal clusters, but not trees (as we consider them). Would be cool if there was a way to make other glowing (light creating) elements (either topside or in thenether).
You can plant and grow normal trees in the nether, you just have to bring in a lot af bonemeal and dirt. With this, you just bring the sappling and maybe a bonemeal.
Actually, since the overworld's light and heat from the sun kill skellingtons, and the nether is hot and bright but does not kill wither skellingtons, I see not reason why a special tree cannot live there. Also, you can plant and grow normal trees in the nether, you just have to bring in a lot af bonemeal and dirt. With this, you just bring the sappling and maybe 1-2 bonemeal.
The key for undead burning is THE SUN not the heat or light. Also Wither Skeletons are natural to the Nether and then are fire proof. They do burn just don't take damage.
For suggestion:
A glowing tree in the HELL?!?Nope, trees weren't made to survive in the nether(Through they can just stay away from things that may cause flames).
The potion ingredient idea was interesting. I think that the light tree leaves (at the same apple drop rate for normal trees) shold drop a corrupted form of the night vision potion, (not the invisibility potion). This could be the blindness potion already ingame but unobtainable, or something like it. When used, mostly after being turned into a splash potion, you see as if it is dark out even in the bright light.
