I know that the Redstone Update (1.5) is drawing near, but here are some things I hope that they add/change to redstone.
Dispenser Changes-
-Dispense Seeds/potatoes/carrots
-Dispense Saplings
-Till Dirt adjacent to the dispenser with a Hoe
-Dispense food to breed animals with
-Dispense Milk to clear potion effects
Pistons-
Gravitational Piston- Throws blocks, players, and mobs up it the sky
Chain Sticky Piston- Acts the same as a sticky piston, but pushs and pulls all blocks in front of it (up to 12).
Mechanisms-
-Pulser- Pulses a redstone signal when powered (Pulser can be adjusted).
-Brick Pressure Plate - Pressure Plate only activated by passive mobs.
-Nether-Brick Pressure Plate - Pressure Plate only activated by hostile mobs.
Misc.-
-Make The Comparator send out a signal depending on how many items a furnace has when it's powered by fuel.

I think it would be a waste of time (under most circumstances) to have a block be tilled via dispenser or a sapling placed, considering it would be much easier to simply till the dirt than with a dispenser. as with the sapling placing, most trees won't grow with a block right next to it, i completely support seeds / carrots / potatoes to be planted though.
The chain piston has been asked for quite a bit.
I'm pretty sure mobs not getting pushed by the piston itself is simply an un-adressed bug.

It wouldn't be COMPLETELY useless to have a dispenser hoe the ground adjacent to it. Say I was farming and 3 spiders attack me, I kill them, but they leave my fields damaged; 1 Click of a button fires off dispensers under the all untilled and tilled blocks and repairs all the damaged fields. See, that could work right?
The sapling mechanism could work too, with the new dispenser changes with bone meal!

Good argument on the dispenser tilling i can agree now, that would be helpful (darn spiders)
I was wrong about the saplings not growing with a block next to it (although i could have sworn it was like that before), so yea you win! :3
