And until you have carrots, you can breed cows and chickens instead. No support. By the time you have saddles, and thus need pigs, you probably have carrots.
I was very upset when pigs were changed to eat only carrots, because I had a huge world with a huge pig farm, and absolutely zero carrots.
I dabble a bit in coding, so I changed my pigs to eat apples, carrots, and brown mushrooms. I didn't add potatoes, but I could have.
Pigs should be easy to breed in Minecraft. If they aren't easy to breed, then they're useless. The way Mojang has it now, it's always better to breed cows. You'd have to be an idiot to start a pig farm. There needs to be a change to make pigs a viable option for meat once again.

That's actually a good point. People say this makes breeding them too easy. So what? The only useful things Pigs do is let you ride them, and you only need one for that. Their food is worthless as soon as you have a Cow (or multiple Chickens, because it restores less, but Chickens can be self-bred with eggs). Riding is barely useful as it is, as short distances or ones with a lot of height variation can usually be traversed faster on foot and far off areas that you go between often are usually better with Minecarts or the Nether.
So why not make Pigs easier to breed? It would actually give them more use (finally).

Curse PremiumIn reality, pigs are omnivores. They will eat plants and meats.
In addition to carrots, pigs should accept potatoes. Pigs love to eat vegetables!
Potatoes are just as easy to get as carrots so it takes the same amount of effort. Although carrots are required to guide pigs while riding a pig.
Support?
Allowing pigs to eat anything would be too easy.

Curse PremiumDo not support this idea.
I'm ok with just potatoes, apples, and carrots, since they are uncommon.
No Support!
