I only have one qualm with this: I could see it getting a bit spammy in the creative menu, quadrupling the amount of wood items we have. Otherwise, not bad at all.

Yes, but that's why the little search feature will come in handy. Plus, not all the items will be into the same place. Doors, gates, trapdoors, buttons, and pressure plates in redstone. Fences, paintings, item frames, torches, crafting tables, chests, signs, and ladders in the decoration. Normal blocks in the building blocks.
You know what? I'm going to add ideas even that I don't like so the community can debate over them.
No that wasn't sarcasm, I think it would be good for my suggestiom.
i was thinking just being able to dye wood tools like leather armor. in herobrines mansion, it seemed the wood shovels held by the first zombies where green... probably already do-able with mc-edit or some 3rd party tool, but in minecraft would be pretty cool.
I support this! Also if Terra Firma Craft (a mod for MC that takes survival to a whole new level) can do multicolored wood, doors, fences, etc. Then Mojang can do this for the vanilla game.

Well, anything can be a mod for Minecarft, so anything could be added.
This is a great suggestion that adds complexity to managing items of different woodtypes and it will make people think more of what type of wood the really do prefer. Over all simple yet complex idea that utilizes current textures with minimal if no new textures. I think most people had the same idea, including me, though you are the one that finally decided to put it on the table where we all can see it!
Crafting tables, Jukeboxes, Note Blocks, Torches, Redstone Torch, Hoes, Swords, Shovels, Axes, Pickaxes, Fishing Rods, Daylight Detectors, Paintings and Item Frames should be multicoloured
how in any way do they serve a decorative purpose?!
In item frames
Yes, but they're not a block. They're not mixing into the background of blocks.

Why? Why items? They have no need to be colored because they're not blocks.

I fully support this idea!
Picture soon to come.
I need to see those pictures
Why? I'll get them up soon.
