what if you could combine slabs to make a single block.
you would have, say, one half redstone block, and another half stone. this would make hiding redstone mechanisms a lot easier.
I don't really get what you are saying. This is also technically a wishlist. I also support sideway slabs, but doubt Mojang would add them. Upside down slabs caused a ton of bugs.

I have no link to prove this, but I believe Dinnerbone did once mention sideways stairs and slabs as a plan as a feature in the game. I could be wrong though, my memory on seeing that statement is vague.
Also, this is a good idea, which alot of people have thought about. I saw a topic very similar to this. The apparent "problem" with these types of ideas are that people claim they are too difficult to code. And, we apparently have a limited block ID, so adding new slabs and allowing different slabs to mix into full blocks would leave little if no room for more blocks in the future.
Despite the amount of times this has been suggested, I think this is something that just about everyone wants - more aesthetic doors would open up with something like this. However, it would require one or both of the following:
1.) Minecraft's grid system gets some rewriting.
2.) A bunch of new block ID's need to be created and reserved for every single possible combination of slabs.
So yeah, I support the slab mixing, but I don't care much for the sideways slabs.
This has been suggested quite a few times before, if you'd like you may post your ideas in this and this preexisting thread
