I CANT BELIEVE SMOOTH STONE STAIRS HAVENT BEEN ADDED YET!
I mean i love the look of smooth stone half slabs.
i just wish it came in a stair form.
speaking of new blocks. i wish slabs could be placed on the sides of blocks. but thats an argument for another day.Hmm should i have put this in the suggestions section?
I gave up wishing for this long ago. Every stone construction I have has those stupid ugly checkerboard cobblestone steps, and I just deal with it. shrug.

I wish there were smooth stone stairs to. I refuse to use cobblestone stairs because they look horrible next to smooth stone, so I opt for the stone brick stairs, which are better, but not as good as actual smooth stairs. This NEEDS to be added.
Ehh we need all halfslabs and stairs for EVERY block in game. (lol water stairs)
I really don't understand why they just can't make a automatic script that will convert ANY block in game to coresponding stairs/halfslab.
still my favorite would be a logs- halfslabs. They would be amazing wor making tables.
Yeah I've sorta wondered about that whole scripting thing as well. Some blocks might not work as well as others being converted into half slabs or what have you.
Especially after the Ludum dare where notch made Minicraft (at least I think thats what it was called) Where the sprites were all greyscale and the color selection was done in the game code. It wouldn't work for all the blocks but repetitive or decoritive items, things like wool or say the sheets on beds. I think they did eventually do something like that with the armor dyes but I really havn't played with the dye system enough to know.
You know if he did post in the suggestion forum the mods there would tear into him about that they already been suggested. I think that smooth stone stairs wont be added, it will be like Half Life 3, a hope but never going to happen.

But that would ruin Minecraft. There's already enough decorative blocks, and we don't need more. In fact, we really need less...

Are you crazy man? We need hundreds more decorative blocks! Fences in every color of the rainbow, glass blocks in every color of the rainbow, bricks in every color of the rainbow.
Seriously though, this is one reason I'm looking forward to the API. It should make it fairly easy to add whatever blocks anyone wants to the game then. They can have their 42 types of wood paneling for their game room floor.

The more and more decorative specific blocks we get, the less skill it takes to build things in Minecraft. I hate to be the nostalgia-goggles idiot, but really, the stuff people built back in the Classic and Indev/Alpha days was the most impressive, because the people were making due with such a limited palette of blocks. That, and they looked better, because they were all just blocks, and no special odd-shaped blocks (stairs, fence, cobble wall, etc), and it looked consistent, like a voxel model. Nowadays it's a confusing mish-mash of normal blocks and special, more detailed decorative blocks, as if Minecraft can't make up it's mind on what it wants to be.
Normally I'd say something like "well, this is just my opinion", but I won't. Because this is a fact, not an opinion. If you can't see this as a clear fact, then truly I feel sorry for you.

I'll bet you get annoyed at the unique pieces in Lego sets too don't you?
But again, this is another thing the API can solve. Remove all the non-cube blocks from your MC and make a 'pure' builder set with only 16 blocks in the normal 16 color pallet and knock yourself out on your Organix/voxel building. (Mojang has said they plan on drinking their own Kool-aid so all the 'default' blocks should just be mods themselves that you could pull from your game.)
My main point is that the API will let each person have whatever blocks they personally feel need to be in without having to alter the common set that is in the base game.

Well I disagree a little. Here's one side of the argument: Since calculators have been introduced to the world, math doesn't require as much skill. True. I like the addition of new blocks however, because all I think that does is open more potential. I still think I can tell how much skill a builder has by looking at his building. A noob's building might look better than it used to, but a pro's building will also look better. I think it's good to compare this with technology in the world. Dumb people can look smarter with calculators, but smart people can do so much more with them... it's the potential. So feel sorry for me.
I'm also still waiting for all colors of wool half slabs and stairs. More tools, shapes, and color pallets doesn't limit creativity but it opens it up far and wide. Sure maybe you had to be a little more creative when using less materials but having more opens all kinds of doors. Material combinations and shapes and structures that are now able to be built. Things that took up ridiculous amounts of space can be compressed and more detail added.

If we had smooth stone stairs, having them be made of 43:9 (the "smooth stone slab", with the top texture on all sides) would be nice, as opposed to having the slab side texture. And MartyLoup, please don't derail the thread with a stupid flamewar about whether what you said was your opinion. Insults aren't nice, and neither is watching a thread undergo a painful death from third-degree burns because someone decided to pull out a lighter.

DUDE you KNOW i did, you KNOW it!
And the modding API really could work, now that I think about it.
