I have been playing much PvP recently and I have found a technique (Abuse of a glitch?) that many a person uses in their fighting: Bow Spamming. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's spamming the right click on a mouse to rapidly shoot arrows to both damage and knock back the player so they are easier to shoot and render their melee weapon useless. Though this seemed like a good idea at first, I have now noticed that it is quite overpowered due to the fact that a bow has superior knockback to that of a sword and deals 1 heart of damage on the first charge level (With 4 1/2 on the highest charge level, rarely 5).
I am asking that there be a bow timeout on the time you can shoot arrows. Maybe you can't shoot until you reach the final charge level or the next to last charge level. It would really improve the PvP experience.
Also, off on a tangent, but could player heads also render hats? My skin is mostly a hat and it just looks bad because the hat didn't render.
in general I don't see this as much of a problem. if you're wearing good armor and they're just arrow spamming, they'll go through TONS of arrows. the fact of the matter is that swords AREN'T always the best weapon, and bows frequently trump them with their range. The best place for melee pvp is in tight spaces where there is little maneuvering room. Not to mention that many arrow spammers are simply terrible with long shots, so a couple of well placed, fully charged arrows from a comfortable distance is often enough to completely destroy them.
Remember that anything a player has in PvP is something that you, yourself, can learn to use in those situations. If you spastically throw yourself into the incoming volley of weak arrows, then yes, they'll probably win. PvP is, by and large, a competition of skill and wit. If you can't defeat someone using a bow in its lowest capacity, then I don't see it as a problem with the bow.
It isn't particularly difficult to avoid, although I agree that this is annoying. It isn't a necessary feature because you can just strafe around the archer, getting constantly closer, and eventually be able to hit him. That tactic would only be fouled by the best archer.

My current avatar is: Raistlin Majere from the Dragonlance novels.
I wouldn't mind something like a half a second to a second between all attacks, sword or bow. Just to prevent people from spam clicking regardless. But if it is done on bows it should be done on all attacks.

Holy crap, these people genuinely saying not to fix this.
This would be fine. It would even the playing field much more. I don't do PvP (Minecraft is far too shallow to enjoy PvP on any level in its current state), but I can see how something like this would completely break PvP.

In addition, this is a bad idea in regards to Single Player Survival and Co-op Survival.
Ever heard of that one enchantment? What was it called... oh right, INFINITY ARROWS!
Bows still eventually break.
