I think when a horde of zombies, spiders and skeletons trying to kill you, you have almost no chances to win.
To give some people that fighting too much mobs at the same time, I have a solution, that will give them a little chance.
The solution is very easy- adrenaline rush.
When more than three mobs attack you at the same time and you have 1.5 hearts or lower, you get an adrenaline rush. The adrenaline rush will give you some extra strength and speed (when you can't run due to hunger, the adrenaline rush can save your life), so you won't die because of beign hated by universe.
Althought, it automaticly dessapear if there is no danger nearby, or if you life bar is above 5 hearts.
A byproduct of adrenaline rush is blindness (you can see 6-7 meters away), so a bow is not the best idea.
"but with the adrenaline rush the mobs had no chance to kill you and it will be boring!"
Err, the aderenaline rush will work only if you had a less than 2 hearts, and if more than 3 mobs attack you at once (or a player).
The adrenaline rush will stay 1 or a half minute (if your life isn't regenerated and if the you still in danger), so it usefull to run away and kill mobs that prevent you to do that.
It also should work great in PVP.

New attack!
(I don't know how to call it)
When a any mob (expect creeper, enderdragon and wither) attacks you, you can use a new attack!
The new attack works like this:
The mob attacks you, and you parry and attack at the same moment when you should being hitted.
The attack will do X2 damage and will block arrows.
"again, it will make you too strong!"
The attack will take a minute or a half to recharge.
It can be great in PVP.

Show HP!
Showing Hp of players and mobs will help you to decide if you shoul flee or fight.
It also can look great.
Hp will a green bar above the hostile. When the mob is damaged you will see a missing part in the bar.
It can be enabled and disabled in the options.

Show inflicted damage!
Showing inflicted damage will help you to know the stregnth of your sword, and will look nice.
It will be numbers that shows the damage above the hostile. critical hits will be colored with red.
It can be enabled and disabled in the options.

I'm not sure that all the ideas are original, and if I wrote someones idea, I'm really sorry, and I would'nt claim his idea as my own.
If you liked one suggestion, say that you support it- and don't say that all the suggestion are bulĀ, and if you disliked one suggestion, say what I should improve.
I really apprechiate (I think that I wrote it wrong) your reading and your opinion.
Well, you could always run. Though this'll be quite interesting in a pvp situation, as it gives you a last fighting chance
-----------------------------
This, like the adreneline rush, would bring a new aspect to pvp, instead of just whacking eachother with swords, I approve.
-----------------------------
Critical hits are already easy to do. If your jumping, and you hit a mob/player, it becomes a "critical hit". I dont think an enchantment is really necsessry due to the easiness of how we can already do it.
Overall, this is a good planned out suggestion, and I support it, but you can also add a little bit more detail

I convinced that the critical hit enchant is needless, and I added more details (and two new stuff)
Your idea about the hit-counter is very nice, I admit it.
About the attack- it should be strong (like a super-attack), and block arrows is can be very usefull- it not just blocks them- the arrows jump back like a laser-mirror kind thing.
Hordes of enemies are plenty survivable -- especially skeletons & creepers. Just get better at the game. If you practice enough, you can do it! There's no need for things like this.

"Just gey better at the game"
This is very insulting.
I talking about 10 skeletons that shot you to death, when you have an iron chestplate and iron sword.
I talking about horde of zombies that pushes you to the corner.
Not everyone are proffesional like you, and not everyone have strong armor and weapon.
I'm trying to help the ones who had almost no chance.
And, horde of enemies (more than 5 mobs that chasing you- not including creepers, are difficult to defeat.
Althrought, I accept your right to have your own opinion.
(You can't feel some mercy to a noob that mines he's first diamond and a horde killed him?)

It is very strong attack that block arrows and inflict X2 damage, so if there is no cooldown you are invincible.
It works like this-
Parry+attack when the mob hit you.
