Hi, I thought of a simple idea or mechanic that I think needs to be addressed. Map crafting. I LOVE the way maps have been going recently, but there is still something about maps that gets my goat. The compasses. I Absolutely hate that every map requires a compass to be used up in order to make it. So I thought of a simple way to make the map. Same crafting recipe and such, but the compass isn't used up. It's so simple and makes so much sense. A compass is often required to make maps in real life, but they don't shove the compass into the map. On a side note though, maybe the compass is required for showing the player where they are. I just don't like using four iron and a redstone, as tiny amount of resources as it is, every time I want to make a map. So maybe just make it something like lava buckets in furnace. Doesn't use up the bucket. That's all, thanks for reading c:
I believe you're able to create multiple maps without the use of compasses now. You only use the compass for 1 map, and then you can "clone" it. Also, Minecraft doesn't have to be realistic, so I find shoving a compass into a map is fine. Finally, iron and redstone are pretty easy to get, at least for me. Not too much support, but the idea's not bad.

False. You actually craft maps with the same recipe. But now it makes Empty Maps. These maps can be crafted with existing ones to duplicate that map. So it still takes Paper and a Compass. But with extra Paper to expand the size.
^ That's why I think it's a bit of a problem. Four iron and a redstone doesn't seem like much, but imagine if you wanted to create about 30 maps (I don't know why :P) thats 120 iron and 30 redstone. Quite a lot. In my opinion at least...
I think you're on to something. And here's what I'm thinking. I think it may be what you're thinking as well, but reading your posts, I'm not entirely sure.
Anyway, what if you required a compass to make a map, but it didn't "cost" the compass? As in, you'd put it in the crafting table, and a map would pop out, and the compass would still be there.
I believe there is something like this in the game already, but I can't remember what it is...

Anyway, why cant it be so that you can see a Compass on your hand while holding a Map?

Yes, exactly. Possibly thinking lava bucket in furnace?
Actually, I think I was thinking Bucket of Milk in cake.
