I had a thread about changing the recipe for stone tools so that it uses stone instead of cobblestone, and it got locked for redundancy. I was told to use the search bar. There's no harm done because everything possible to be said was said in the comments (a "hot" topic for such a tiny tweak?), and it was getting out of control, but it can be annoying in other cases.
There was no way for me to know it was redundant, and there's no way for me to find the old thread and comment on it. Searching "stone tool", "smooth stone tool", and "stone tool recipe" gave me irrelevant results, and Google searching this site can't find it because of the broadness of the title. If there's no way to find the older topic, what's the point of encouraging people to go to it?
For a thread to be locked for redundancy, a link to the old thread should be required to be posted as both proof and directions to the original topic. Even if the moderator remembers an older topic, there's no good in locking a redundant topic if the old topic essentially doesn't exist.
As this is technically a suggestion for a rule to be changed on these forums (though I agree that it should be changed), it should be in Forum Discussion and Info, not here.

Oops, I'll post it there. I've seen forum suggestions here many times, so I thought this was the place.
I found a couple threads on the same thing, and the second one I linked is the oldest one. I don't know how you searched for it exactly, but I always use advanced search by clicking the little gear next to the search bar. It works loads better for me.

Ah, can't believe I missed the advanced search. Thanks.

Someone lock this please. I put it in the wrong place.
