I'm just going on a limb that it would be easy to bump up the entire world by about another 40 blocks. With this free area, we could have an entirely new underground. Cave gen will still be the same, but for the stone in this area, you need an iron pick at least. And then There could be another set of ores corresponding to the normal set of ores. Then we could make a portal with another liquid that is like lava. And then you would have to wear a chestplate with Fire Resistance to not burn up inside the World. Then Jeb could make a little spin off of the Aether.
New Version:
Reasoning for this update:
A good update, would be the Mining update. Since they made a update specifically for redstoners, I thought Jeb could make one for miners.
How it would work:
Since the sea level is at a certain level, why not move it up about 40 blocks? It would actually make the 256 sky limit useful. And with that free 40 blocks, we could have an entirely new section of stone.
There would be a new type of stone, I guess it could be called Hard Stone. It would need an iron pick to mine, like it takes a wooden pick to mine stone. There could be a new type of furnace corresponding to the stone, that cooks 1.25% faster then normally. Additionally, there would be a new set of ores.
In Vanilla minecraft, there is a set of tool materials. I made a little info chart on what level they are.
Wood -1
Stone - 2
Gold - 3
Iron - 4
Diamonds - 5
In the new area, there could be a corresponding set.
Wood is just used for gathering stone, Stone is for coal, Gold is to dig faster, Iron is to mine level 5 material, and Diamond is just for end game.
And just like the ores, there could be a new liquid that's like lava. Magma, would instantly kill anything can came in touch with is. It would melt down normal stone and inflammable blocks. Water could be poured over it to make some kind of harder material. And that material could be used to make portal to the end.
I have to include a little love for redstoners. Just like there is redstone, there could be bluestone. It's basically redstone, but with a spin. You mine it and get a little pile of the dust. And then you smelt the dust with the new furnace into bluestone wire. It can go vertical and functions like redstone. This way, redstone can be transferred along long distances without big delays. And not using a bug.
Um... I think you need a lot more detail. That was kind of all over the place, so I don't understand what you're trying to suggest. Can you please break that apart and explain it bit by bit?

Just a tip, you don' have to use it, but it might be helpful: "A good update, would be the mining update" should read "A good update would be the mining update". You don't need the comma.
I'm not sure about mythiril, but I do like the idea of shifting the tiers.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

* Toolset:
* Wood
* Stone
* Iron
* Gold
* Diamond
* Mythril
* Mythril blocks, created when water touches magma, only minable with diamond or mythril pickaxes.
* Mythril blocks are used to craft Mythril tools and armor.
* The armor has 10000 uses and gives you infinite health.
* The tools also have 10000 uses and allows you you break any block (including bedrock) in 0.5s and get the resource.
* Mythril blocks are used to create End Portals in the same way as Nether portals (except with Mythril blocks instead of Obsidian).
* The portal color would be black, and End Portals would be removed from strongholds completely.
* The color of the Mythril mineral is pink.
* It takes 10 seconds to successfully mine Mythril blocks without enchantments, and will take 250 seconds without one.
