Ranged combat is pretty basic in this game. Get a bow and shoot arrows. No weapon variety, ammo variety, etc. And if this has already been posted, I searched, and didn't find anything relevant, except for some mods and that's it.
New Weapons:
No, not guns. Stuff that would fit in Minecraft.
-Crossbows: They would do slightly more damage than a bow, but they shoot a lot more slower than a bow. While, bows can spam arrows with barely pulled strings, crossbows can't. They can only shoot when the string is pulled to the max. Also, crossbows would shoot in a completely straight line. Since it has only 1 type of shot, critical hits are pointless. They have an armour bypassing effect (nullifies an X% of armour). Crossbows would have different types of enchanments:
Armour Bypass (I-IV): The crossbow nullifies even more of the armour.
Strong Pull: Increased base damage.
Fast Loading: Pulls string faster, shooting at a faster rate.
Oil Tipping: Puts target on fire.
Sturdiness: More durability.
Recipe:
-Throwing knives: They can be shoot at very fast speeds. Clicking one will shoot it (no pulling back). They deal few damage, 1,5 hearts at most. They would be useful if a melee opponent comes close to stop using a bow, but not close enough for sword. While throwing them, there are no speed decreases. They are stackable and cannot be enchanted.
Recipe:
When crafted, they would yield 5 knives.
-Composite Bows: They are like bows, but more curved. They can shoot more straight than the normal bow and while pulling back the string, the player can move slightly faster than a normal bow. The enchantments are the same as normal bows. To balance them to normal bows, they do slightly less damage.
Recipe:
Fish bladders were used to glue parts together.
-Javelin: They take a while to throw, but they can do higher damage than a normal bow. They stack to 8. The advantage of javelins is that they're easy to make right at the begining. It can give a ranged weapon to fight creepers the first day. It makes ranged combat an option for new players, since string would be harder to get. They cannot be enchanted.
Recipe
When crafted, they would yield 3 javelins.
Throwing Axe: Similar to throwing knives, but slower. However, they deal more damage. Moving while shooting gives a slight speed decrease.
Recipe:
New Ammo:
Flint is a pain to get. It is easy, but time consuming. I thought that placing some materials in the crafting table, you could obtain chips from it, allowing you to replace the flint while crafting and getting different arrows:
If you have more than one type of arrows, the quiver should be impleneted. The bow should only shoot arrows from the quiver. If there are arrows in the quiver, then the bow chooses those. If there are various arrows, but no quiver, then the bow would pick at random. If you only have 1 type of arrow, then the bow will choose that one.

No, not guns. Stuff that would fit in Minecraft. Please explain how guns don't fit Minecraft.

Plus, why make them enchantable instead of making bows enchantable.

The enchantments are the same as normal bows. To balance them to normal bows, they do slightly less damage. Slightly weaker bows that can be spammed more easily with less repercussions? No suppport.

Seems handy, and great for expanding ranged combat. Support.
