Hi, I was wondering, why aren't pumpkins used for WAAAYY more things. For instance, they can be used for birds nests, instruments, bowls, and jack o lanterns (already added). At least we have some way to spend the snowy days in the Taiga by making ourselves a nice snow golem (honestly completely useless) or making iron golems (pretty cool).
So heres my suggestion, why not make pumpkins grow unblemished, with no face, and then the rest comes in later. You can carve a pumpkin (with the face) by hitting it with any type of sword, and it will carve out a face, may include random faces. These can be used for decoration, or even more by placing a torch inside.
Now, placing a pumpkin in a crafting table could give you 8 pumpkin slices (raw). You can cook these slices, or eat them raw, up to you. Each cooked slice gives 2 hunger, and raw gives you 1/2 hunger. Placing raw slices in a crafting table will give you seeds! (Didn't forget about them)
Now, whats the point of making these slices? Well pumpkin chests of course! Africans used them as small storage bowls and why don't we as well? It can be crafted like a normal chest, with pumpkin replacing the wooden planks, and nothing in the top middle row. This can hold 3 rows (27 slots) and is easy to break.
I hope this is thought about at least, and more ideas are appreciated too! Negative comments are appreciated, as long as there is a reason.
P.S Scarecrows! Leather armour, sticks and a pumpkin. Just an idea.
I support the face thingy and even the chest thingy. There is already however pumpkin pie so yeah the pumpkin slices would be meh. I would like pumpkin pie to be placeable though lol

Pumpkins are extremely useful as is, due to the fact that they can be used to create two utility mobs, one of which is more useful than the other. It's strange that you would see a pumpkin as a bird's nest or bowl, compared to the wooden bowls we already have.

Good idea, I like it.

Now you're starting to lose me... This is very random. "Pumpkin slices"? I think I'll pass there.

Now you're really losing me. Africans using this doesn't warrant the idea as good, it's still a little out-of-nowhere. I see no point in the pumpkin chest.
If this pumpkin chest had wood in the recipe then maybe the chest could look more aesthetic and nature like with vines and such on it? I mean regular chests are so boring :D.
