Something my friends, brother, and I like to do is make a secret, state-of-the-art underground base. However, no matter what we achieve in-game, we can never prevent others from seeing our name tags in our base, so we must always build far away from civilization. In addition, the sounds of sheep in our sheep farm, monsters in our monster traps, and portals are VERY annoying.
A simple feature to add would be a couple of properties of some insulation block: you can't see player name tags through it, and you can't hear any sounds through it. Obviously, if they were to add this, I'd line our base with the insulation block and line the walls of the farms and portal room.
It makes sense for obsidian to be the insulation block since it is the strongest block obtainable and is expensive, but wool might make more sense because it is a sound muffler IRL and is easier to take apart. Talons suggested sponges being added and used for this purpose, and that also sounds like a good idea. Tell me what you think.
If you are trying to hide, the shift button may help, and if the sounds of portals or sheep bother you, move them away. No need to add two different blocks for problems which can easily be fixed.
The blocks already exist and holding shift constantly isn't always practical especially when going about regular business inside your base, having a safe room or the ability to remove player names should be available for practical purposes.
I can imagine the feature of hiding player names a new way to greif un-detected. Anyway, holding shift was added to make it harder for people to see you, can make you slower while walking. Each plus should have a minus.

Add two different blocks? Who said anything about that? And sorry, I'm not going to move my portal super far away from the center of my base, especially not if I have to sneak all the way to it.

The minus in this case would be that you have to line your entire base with the insulator. I can't imagine a griefer lining a targeted house with insulator before he griefs it, especially since covering someone's house in wool or obsidian is griefing anyway. I'm not going to sneak around in my base constantly. That's actually what I had to do for a while, but my friend forgot once, and we were discovered. You actually CAN'T sneak if you're interacting with certain things like chests.

You would have to line EVERY path you took to greif undetected.
Anyway, this is a great idea. Every time I play a survival games my partners forget to croutch and our base gets spotted and looted. I would make it wool, because if you messed up or were expanding your base, it wouldn't take a hour to just take it down.
This is a great idea, especially if you put the wool/obsidian between the layers of walls and make it look from the outside like the base is abandonned.
I also support this suggestion, but, perhaps, this feature could be added to sponges, and where to get sponges? Oh I don't know, make them generate underwater, like clay/dirt.
I definitely want sponges to generate in oceans. I've added the sponge to the list of possible blocks, and I'm leaning towards it more than the others.

Do chests block player tags or block sound?

So I support yours lol.
