So I want to be able to make my villages a bit more secure and self-sustaining without my having to constantly monitor it.
Protecting a village is really fun the first couple of nights, when you first find it.
But if you want to live in a village, amongst the villagers, you will start having problems. Zombies are constantly knocking down doors and eating villagers. Forget about digging a mine under a village. You might as well forget any resources under a village.
If you put iron doors on the village houses, then the villagers can't open them. If you put wooden doors on there, then the zombies get in. So how about emerald doors.
Emerald doors are crafted from emerald blocks. Emerald doors can be opened by villagers, but zombies are too stupid.

Decent idea, but maybe regular emeralds instead of emerald blocks, like iron door? Emerald blocks are a tad too expensive for doors.
Good idea, but the doors only get knocked down by zombies in hard and hardcore mode. Maybe they should only be able to be crafted in those two game modes?
I don't agree that emerald should be used for anything except as decoration and currency.
This. It just doesn't seem right, making doors out of currency. Why not just make a door out of another material?

Why does it have to be emerald? Because villagers seem to like emerald for some reason. They have an affinity for it. Why do villagers love emeralds so much in the first place? What are they doing with all those emeralds?
Can you think of a different material for villager-only doors? By all means, suggest it.

They like it because it is their currency. They only use it in it's raw form, have you seen villagers with emerald blocks in their homes? No, because it is their form of currency and they don't use it for anything else.

I don't think anything should be made with emeralds, but it does kind of make sense considering it's for villagers.
But what are the functions of the pressure plates and buttons? I assume pressure plates can only be activated by you or villagers, but what about buttons? Villagers don't press buttons...

Money. We like it, we work for it, but notice we don't make doors out or dollar bills or coins.
What if, instead of entire door made of emeralds, it would just be an door with an emerald icon on the front? Because an entire door of emerald seems a bit strange, but I like the idea.
There are plenty materials that doors/buttons/pressure plates could be made from, and Minecraft's main form of currency shouldn't be one of those materials.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
You could try a stone door, it makes sense because stone is relatively strong so zombies can't break through it.
Not bad. I had different ideas for a stone door (two ideas: camoflauging a door, and also having the door emit a redstone signal when opened by hand), but it could be a villager door. Maybe it could have the chiseled stone texture on it.

I like this idea, but unfortunately zombies will break down doors in Hard and Hardcore mode, but for Emerald Doors, it's for villagers.
(as for the emerald pressure plates and buttons, I think they should be activated by villagers)
How about villagers being able to go through iron doors if there's a button next to it. Basically, they can press buttons to only use doors.
Could work, but I am concerned about the coding for this. A villager will have to be given AI instructions about exactly when they're allowed to push buttons and when they're not allowed. I pictured a simpler code in my head being "Is this door/button/pressure plate made of emerald? No = ignore it. Yes = spam it whenever possible!" Like the way wooden doors basically work now.
And you're behind the times a little bit if you haven't realized you can already make walls, floors, and ceilings out of emerald blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if a future update put emerald blocks in the homes of some of the richer villagers.

I thought of this a bit too. My problem is trying to explain why zombies should be foiled by an emerald icon. Maybe they just shouldn't, and maybe it should work differently.

Excuse me? I'm asking, if he doesn't think that emeralds are right for doors, what material does he think would be better? Where is your comment coming from?
Responding by repeating the person you're responding to won't get you far. I wasn't giving any specifics to what could make doors, just that a form of currency wouldn't be part of that.

Saying "excuse me" on an internet forum..? Why not? Also, why did you simply repeat what I said..? That wasn't very clever. My comment came from the confusion of you asking 0_Zippy "do you have another suggestion?"
