Gold leaf can be made very shiny by burnishing, so I propose the introduction of several gold gilt items having light level 2, as follows:
First, use an anvil with 1 gold nugget to produce 4 gold leaf. Costs XP.
Crafting:
Shiny treasure chest: 1 chest + 8 gold leaf -> 1 gilt chest. (Also, double gilt chests.)
Tricky treasure chest: 1 trapped chest + 8 gold leaf -> 1 gilt trapped chest, with the SAME texture as the (non-trapped) gilt chest. (Also, double gilt trapped chests.)
A house fit for a king: 1 brick block + 8 gold leaf -> 1 gilt brick block. (Also, gilt brick slabs and gilt brick stairs made from gilt brick blocks.)
Show off your treasures with built-in lighting: 1 item frame + 4 gold leaf -> 1 gilt item frame.
The cost in gold wouldn't be prohibitive, but the XP cost for the anvil use would be a limiting factor preventing overuse.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. For those concerned about the light being too bright, note that the light level I suggested, 2, is not even as bright as moonlight.
I don't like the idea for the XP cost, but that's all that i have a problem with. I'd be happy to see a some gilted stone bricks, so long as they are only yellow on the edges of the bricks so that the yellow colour is not overwhelming.
A salient point. Giving gilded items a slight shimmer on the gold parts, similar to the enchantment effect, or "sparkle" particles, might be another way to achieve the effect.

Interesting idea, particle-based shimmer. I think I'd like that, in addition to a low light level. Appreciate the suggestion.

As long as my house doesn't turn into a sun, I would support this.
Stay fluffy~

If anyone wants to port/remake this, feel free to do that! Or don't. It's up to you, really.
Absolutely support this.
That's the point. It's supposed to make it more noticeable, not actually be a source of illumination.
