My idea is that there are very small chances of getting some of these "rare" items from chests (the chests already found in dungeons). There is a 15% chance of getting one rare item in any given chest. Some items have an even higher rarity. Please note that NONE of these rare items can be crafted, meaning the only way to find them is through a chest.
Desert Robes (4 piece set)
These are new pieces of armor, although they cannot be crafted. There are 4 pieces in the set: The mask, robe, legs and boots. They are colored white, and have a much different look compared to other pieces of armor. The mask wraps around the player's head when worn, and covers everything except for his eyes. The robes are much more flowing compared to the regular chests. The legs are also more flowing, and the boots have a different texture as well. They protect the player about as much as leather armor does, although they take longer to break.
Magic Carpet
This is a very rare item (2% chance). The Magic Carpet can be placed on the ground, similar to a boat. A player can right click to get on it. The Magic Carpet is not controlled like most things are. Instead of using the WASD keys to move forward, back, left and right, the carpet utilizes the same keys but instead, the controls are based on acceleration. The Magic Carpet can be sped up by using the W key, increasing the speed at which it flies. The Carpet's maximum speed is slightly higher than sprinting, without the cost of hunger. The S key decelerates, until it reaches a full stop. Turning is usually done with the mouse (in a boat) but on a carpet, you turn with the A and D keys. This means, holding the D key will rotate the Carpet clockwise, and the S key will rotate it counter clockwise.
Now, this sounds op right? Well, a carpet is difficult to control. It takes a long time to accelerate fully, and much longer to decelerate. Turning does not correct the carpet's course immediately, making the Carpet hard to turn without crashing. If you crash, you will be thrown off the carpet, taking damage if you fall or hit something. The Carpet can only hover about 10 blocks above the ground, and if you go over a ravine you can feel the effect as the carpet temporarily goes down. Lastly, as you fly the carpet, it will slowly lose it's durability. Once it runs out, you can recharge it by enchanting it. It costs 10 levels to fully recharge it. You cannot use items while on the carpet, and if you dismount before stopping fully, there is a good chance of being thrown off, and taking damage.
Top Hat:
The Top Hat is similar to the desert robes in that it has little use, other than looks (and rarity). The Top Hat is exactly what it sounds like, and will make you look like an 1920's businessman.
Lightning Rod:
This is a new weapon. The Lightning Rod is a long iron rod that divides at it's end to form to small points (Imagine a smaller version of a pitchfork). When charged, it can be used (through left click) to unleash a deadly blast of electricity. The blast's damage will vary based on the armor the target is wearing. Without armor, it deals four hearts of damage each blast. With leather, it will only deal one and a half hearts. Chain armor will increase the damage dealt to five hearts, and full iron will increase it to seven. Gold is a great conductor, and the poor player who has decided to wear gold will take eight and a half hearts of damage each blast. Diamond is not conductible, and thus it will only deal two and a half hearts. When releasing the rod's deadly blast, it will effect all mobs and players within eight blocks ahead of the player using it.
Sounding op yet? Well, of course it comes with some drawbacks. The rod has only ten uses, and is only found with about six. How can you recharge it you may ask? Well its not easy. The rod can be placed as a block, and must be struck by lightning to recharge it. Each blast of lightning will add three levels of durability. It has a higher chance of being struck than other blocks, but it is still difficult to upkeep. You can increase the chance of it being struck by placing it high up in the air, connected to some form of metal.
Now, using the rod to quickly can damage the player using it. If you use it twice within six seconds, then you will take damage also (50%).
Statuette:
This is a small statue (one block) that can be placed, mainly for decoration. There are six variations of the statuette, each one representing a piece on a chess board. If players wanted to, they could play a game of chess (although on a very large board). The pawns are fairly common, and have a higher chance of being found than any other "rare" item. The rarity increases in the order of worth (pawn, knight, bishop, castle, queen, king). They are aesthetic statues, and look realistic.
Riddle Box:
If a player finds a Riddle Box, they can attempt to solve it by right clicking with the box in their hand. It will then open up the puzzle, which the player can attempt to solve. The puzzles come in different varieties, from a riddle that the player has to answer by typing it in on the box to a 5x5 slider puzzle, where the player has to match the pieces to a picture by sliding the tiles around. If the player solves it, then prizes will appear in the players inventory. These prizes have a mid chance of being other "rare" treasures.
Spiked Collar:
"What would a spiked collar do in Minecraft?" Well, put it on one of your wolves and find out! Putting a spiked collar on a wolf will make it a dire wolf. Dire wolves have twice as much health as a normal wolf, have a higher resistance to environmental effects, and have a more advanced AI, that will allow them to steer clear of cliff edges and stay away from lava and cacti. Dire wolves do 8 damage, Angry that a creeper blew up your pack of 15 wolves? Dire Wolves have a special creeper hunting ability that allows them to one-hit a creeper before it explodes - although it will tire the wolf out, and it won't be able to attack or move for a few seconds. A Dire Wolf also possesses the ability to lead the rest of the pack. This involves synchronizing moves to deal the most damage.
I am sure that there can be hundreds of these, but I believe this will be satisfactory. I hope you like it, be sure to comment any ideas of your own.
Top hats and desert robe's purposes are mainly for looks. However, I bet that ingame because of their rarity, they would be worth a lot of money to the right players.
I like the magic carpet, however it should also have a double-s feature. Double-Tapping decelerate snaps the carpet to a stop, but at a significant cost to durability (5% durability loss for a quick stop).
This is to give the player more control over the carpet at the cost of durability. The other ideas are kind of.... well.. meh...
As a matter of fact, you'd probably do far better if the magic carpet was the only thing in this thread .
I'm not sure...On the one hand, who doesn't like finding rare items? But on the other, the more uncraftable things you add, the more minecraft loses its sandbox feel. There are MMOs like maplestory and WOW that have thousands of items like this, where people trade in a virtual economy. But in minecraft, it's possible to make almost everything, starting from just your bare hands.
However, for useless, purely aesthetic items like the chess pieces and the robes, I think this might be fine. Just like exploring for chiselled stone bricks, it's just a rare something you can show off. But things like the magic carpet or lightning rod, if ever implemented, should have their own crafting recipes. This is minecraft, not Dungeons and Dragons. There should be no artifacts.

Curse PremiumThanks for support
Ethier make the carpet a little less under powered or more common
And give the lighting rod a second way of recharge. Coal makes electricity, maybe 32 coal makes 4 uses?
other then that it is good. Support.
