What:
The Hellsprite is a fire based mob, (like the blaze) that directs and controls fire as it's main weapon. it's appearance is similar to the player's except it has cracks along it's shoulders and back with fire "leaking" out. Short term: Fire based mob, suit of armor appearance with fire "leaking" out from cracks in armor.
This is closest to what it would look like:
Note: this is taken from Google images
Behavior:
It's a ranged mob, it will constantly walk around observant of it's surroundings, upon being attacked it will always keep it's distance before firing. it will also do it's best to keep a long distance from the player. it will also swiftly dodge projectiles fired at it. Short term: Ranged mob, observant, always keeps it's distance from the player. dodges projectiles
Spawning:
Spawns in the Nether (Surprise?)
Rare
Defensive attributes/effects:
Health - 12 hearts = Immune to fire
Regenerates health over time.
Attacks/Damage:
Whenever it encounters the player it will do one of the following attacks:
Fireballs:
This is a unique form of attack, 3 fireballs (again like the blaze) will be seen hovering next to it. when it spots a player, it will begin "charging" the 3 fireballs which will begin to spin in a clockwise form. every clockwise spin will charge 1 fireball increasing it in size (small, medium, large) (9 spins in total to charge all the fireballs). and it will fire only if the player approaches it's 5 block radius, 5 seconds will also be needed to spawn in another fireball.
Damage values:
Small fireball - Easy: 2 Normal: 5 Hard: 7
Medium fireball - Easy: 5 Normal: 7 Hard: 9
Big fireball - Easy: 7 Normal: 9 Hard: 11
Spray of pain:
When it's out of fireballs and the player is within 3 blocks near it or more, it will spray flame from it's hands knocking back those hit and setting them aflame. the attack itself does no damage, but those affected will suffer afterburn. (10 sec cooldown)
Flamagaedon:
This is an attack it will rarely use, but when both attacks are down and the player is near it (or attacking it) the Hellsprite will make a loud puffing noise before waving it's arms in a stance and raising them high in the air, this will cause flames to burst from the ground in a 4 block radius dealing massive damage and afterburn.
Death:
When it finally dies, it floats in the air before crashing down causing a smallnondestructive fiery explosion. that will burn any entity within a 3 block radius unfortunate enough to be in the way. then it's drops and xp will appear. (note: that it's drops and xp will not be destroyed)
Drops:
Fire crystal (60%) (2-4)
Fire charge (80%) (5-7)
Obsidian (20%) (1-2)
Experience
Use:
A Fire crystal is used in brewing, used on an awkward potion to create a "Potion of Fire Conductivity" this potion is similar to that of "Potion of fire resistance" except that it will absorb fire damage and use it to fill an extra 5 heart flame HP bar. this HP bar will not be effected by armor/defense effects and will block out any physical damage (physical as in sword, explosion, fall, arrow damage. potions and enchanting damage will effect the main HP bar directly). this effect will last for 12 seconds before the extra HP bar will finally degrade. the hearts used in this bar will also be fadish and orangish in color.
Reasons:
- We need a strong mob in the Nether
- New Potions, who doesn't want that?
Except the blaze won't dodge your arrows and flies; This guy walks and dodges. I support; It sounds neat, and I'd love the challenge of trying to shoot him...
Nice thought, but I have two things to take account of it:
1. You should not call it Hellsprite, because the Nether has intentionally no direct references to hell, demons, etc. It's just a dangerous world with lava and mobs and it's up to you how you want to interpret it. The Nether itself is a reference to hell, I will add I poll if people want it changed though.
2. I think it has too much similarities with the blaze. Almost every mob in Minecraft is quite unique with its own special features. Some mobs have a quite similar fellow, like the slime with the magma cube, but then only in an other dimension, never in the same. Not really, the only similarity is has with the blaze is the fact that it shoots fireballs.

I think its a bit OP if it regens health and shoots fireballs at the same time. Though I would love a new mob to be added into the nether. I also like to brew so the potion was a very neat touch.

Not really, it gets stronger than more idle (or ignorant) you are to it. besides 2 hits with a diamond sword can take it down quickly. as long as you are swift and nimble enough to dodge it's attacks though.
Mayby it could spawn in nether forts?
i would love to see this and a blaze together. +1 for the good idea
I'm glad you liked the idea. I'm pretty sure the potion is balanced enough. and also note that it spawns in the Nether, meaning anywhere. so you would probably see it alongside the blaze and Wither skeleton.

Hmmm... I'm on the fence. On one side, it adds a new nether mob, a strong one at that, and some new potion stuff (but I would like to have all potion effects that are in the codes in vanilla game before new ones are added). But it also sounds like too close a relative to the blaze (I know there are some big differences, but that's my opinion), and seems a bit too strong (I'm certain I can deal with it though). I'm neutral, but in a positive way.
Yeah, and there had been people crying for a stronger mob.
But it also sounds like too close a relative to the blaze
Honestly, the original concept I came up with was that it would fire flaming shards that deal 2 hearts on whatever difficulty but this would deal afterburn that would stack damage. I figured it was too OP and changed in to the current one you see now. much better yes?
seems a bit too strong
Not really, the more Idle (or ignorant) you are to it, the more stronger it will be. it's that type of mob that demands your attention.

I'm thinking of changing this suggestion into "Nether Dungeons" wherein the Hellsprite would spawn there along with a few other Nether mobs. anyone up for it?
