My idea is, that you create a map in creative mode. Then once it's finished, you tell minecraft to export it. The exporting would create a copy of the map, and in a menu, allow you to choose which blocks are breakable, and which blocks aren't. You could also choose a limit range, and Minecraft would eliminate everything in the map outside that range, and not allow players to go there. This would increase the speed Minecraft runs maps at, and allow map makers greater control.
These ideas would be excellent for adventure maps, but this could be seen as a wishlist, as your suggesting a lot more than what your thread title tells us.

Well, I can only put so much under the title. I consider the whole idea to be part of exporting adventure maps.
More details, how would it work? I can just copy my maps independently and change the gamemode for all new players using command blocks.
The difference with this is, that you could control, via a menu, the blocks that you wanted players to be able to break, and not break. Plus it would also lock players out of cheating.
