Nice and simple, there should be more placeable foods. LIke cake, pumkin pie should be placeable. So should mushroom stew (with steam coming off of it). Clay could be used to create a plate which could be used to place cookies, carrot, or potatoes onto to be able to eat them off of, and for asthetic purposes.
Cauldrons should also be able to be heated to cook new foods, or cook foods differently. Mushroom stew should be cooked in a cauldron over a fire (must be over a fire for cooking cauldron to work).
ALL IN ALL THESE FOODS SHOULD BE USED FOR INCREASED ASTHETIC PURPOSES!!!I ALSO FORGOT TO SAY THAT MILK SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE PLACED AS WELL, AND CHICKEN, BEEF, AND PORK SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO ON THE PLATES MENTIONED IN THE MAIN POST!!!I ALSO FORGOT TO SAY THAT MILK SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE PLACED AS WELL, AND CHICKEN, BEEF, AND PORK SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO ON THE PLATES MENTIONED IN THE MAIN POST!!!

Not that big of a reason to implement. You're just making other foods copy cake.

The only way I would support this is an actual "Table" block that is actually a Tile Entity. I don't like this method one bit.

Cauldrons cooking things.
-Cauldrons have no uses, other than water
-Could be difficult to set up with everlasting fire beneath it.
-Already covered by furnaces
Clay Plates
-Purely aesthetic
-Maybe come with a gui to determine what foods are on it?
-Could be rather nice for houses, similar to a flowerpot but edible.
Making other foods "Placeable"
-Yes, it does just copy the cake
-Again, aesthetic, no "real" use.
-Perhaps pumpkin pie makes the most sense.
In conclusion, I like the idea of a "plate", perhaps with 4 slots for 4 singular food items. It doesn't have much of a use beyond aesthetics, but hey, why not?
Cauldrons cooking things....not as much. No support there.
Other placeable foods? I only think perhaps pumpkin pie. that would make more sense with "slices" being removed each bite.
Theriasis, again with beating down on aesethic blocks for having no purpose. How many times will I have to repeat that in this game aestethic blocks HAVE uses, more than you would probably think. Aestethic blocks are a huge chunk of all blocks in the game, why? To simulate the players' wish for variation. We could just have only one type of tree, one type of food, one type of building blocks, but it is this never ending expansion of variation in its context that stimulates the minecraft experience and helps bringing the gaming-experience alive! Accept that decorative blocks have a value and get over it.
As to this suggestion, pretty poorly formulated, but the inner value is far greater. Congrats, you beat me to this one, Jorg, now go ahead and make something of it! ;D
I am highly in favour of more placable foods as they have both a PvP-value and decorative values, so a bit from both directions in the minecraft society. Other than that I suggest the more the merrier.
A good idea is to craft the food item together with a bowl to make it placable, this negates the ability to eat the food in your inventory, but gives a bit extra food-bar for each bite you take from it once placed.
I am in favor of this suggestion, keep it up and keep improving it! ;D
