As it is the only ore i can think of that cannot be crafted into a block I think the time has come. The main pourpouse I would like this is to have better stacking of coal. It would take 9 coal to make a block and could be used like coal in the furnace it would just last 9 times as long. Could end up with someother cool properties too, maybe something to do with how it burns. They could make the texture look like cobblestone but darker like it was made from coal. Perhaps the charcoal version could have slightly brownish highlights in it.
though i do think we need a truly smooth black block
I ma not quite sure how it is redundant as I did search for a thread covering this. As to a smooth black block I agree we need one but I don't think this should be it. As I said I think the texture should be similar to cobblestone to llok like the block was made from lumps of coal. I always thaough the obsidian texture should be smoother myself.
I actually think this idea is fairly original as to adding it for the purpose of a better way of stacking coal and being utilized as a smooth black block, which I am all in favour of. I always thought of the ore-blocks as a way to put 9 pieces together into one big gem/ingot rather than simply bundeling them together into what would become simply a pile, that is why I am in favour of a smooth block like all the others instead of a cobble-like texture.
I support this suggestion-
and I do not support the removal of this thread. By making this thread the person responsible reinvoked an obviously dead suggestion rather than bumping something which probably was different and non-looked after. Many, many peoples had the idea, a few may have posted it in the past, but that should not stop this person from re-awakening it, and adding to it at that! Keep moving, troll.

And all blocks that are storage blocks are smooth in texture. Why break up a theme?

This really is a redundant suggestion. They way I would recommend for searching for suggestions is click on the little gear next to the search bar, select title-only search, select the suggestion forum section, and enter the search terms. Using this method of search for Coal Block results in 13 suggestions mentioning those two words in the title.

ModeratorIt is redundant because:
There are tons of threads suggesting that this be added.
And all blocks that are storage blocks are smooth in texture. Why break up a theme?

Thanks for showing me those but i am not sure how to find them when I did a search I came up with the following.
//www.minecraftforum.net/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&andor_type=&sid=9b5486c5d38c7fcbe5f852c99e2dc641&search_app_filters[forums" target="" data-ensure-absolute>[sortKey]=posts&cType=forum&cId=1&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=posts&search_app_filters[forums][searchInKey]=&search_app_filters[forums][sortDir]=&search_term=coal+block&search_app=forums&search_app_filters[forums][searchInKey]=&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=date&search_app_filters[forums][sortDir"]http://www.minecraftforum.net/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&andor_type=&sid=9b5486c5d38c7fcbe5f852c99e2dc641&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=posts&cType=forum&cId=1&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=posts&search_app_filters[forums][searchInKey]=&search_app_filters[forums][sortDir]=&search_term=coal+block&search_app=forums&search_app_filters[forums][searchInKey]=&search_app_filters[forums][sortKey]=date&search_app_filters[forums][sortDir]=
If I am not searching correctly please let me know so that I can improve my methods as I really don't want to be posting redundant threads.
As to why the cobble texture I just think it fits in better with what coal is but as I said I would not be opposed to a smooth black block.
