My idea, the demon realm. Each has it's own portal, and each portal requires blocks out of crafts dropped from the previous circles boss. The first circle is accessed by making an endergem portal. endergem is made with Ender's Workbench, which has three slots, the object being enhanced, and two other slots that contain the items being used for enhancement. Ender's WorkBench is made like this:
End Stone | Crafting Table | End Stone
Obsidian | Ender Egg | Obsidian
Eye Of Ender | Obsidian | Eye Of Ender
at the Crafting Table.
The first circle is the circle of fire. It is reminiscent of the nether, but much more hostile. It DOES have glowstone, netherrack, and soul sand as the main blocks, but in new ways. The main formation is soul sand plain all along the main level. There are patches of netherrack sometimes, but netherrack always starts aflame. Glowstone mountains dot the landscape, but each is dotted with fire geysers, that spurt lava up out of the top. That isn't the worst of it. Soulsand is the spawning point for claw imps, nasty little buggers that jump at you similar to spiders, but cause puncture instead of poison, puncture is an effect that halves the effect of your armor level. Netherrack spawns fire imps, which shoot fireballs at you, they explode with flame on impact, and are not deflect-able like ghast blots. Glowstone is even worse, it spawns flare imps, these ones shoot glowing lasers at you, not exactly a walk in the park eh? Lava is obnoxious too, it spawns fire demons, mix the abilities of claw imps and fire imps, then give them more health and make them larger. That pretty much sums up fire demons. There is the occasional castle, this is made up of flare stone, it will immediately ignite anything that touches it. Inside are two more enemies to cause you pain. Magma blazes. These super-sized, angry-red blazes launch explosive fireballs that also spawn lava. There are also hostile lava golems. (lava golems can be player made to be friendly by placing a base of obsidian, a + of obsidian on top, now carve out the brick in the middle and place lava there. done) fire golems are stronger than iron golems, and throw ghast-like fireballs. In the center room you will find summoners for a volcano demon (summoner is a special altar, you have to fight the volcano demon in the room) the volcano demon drops lots of really good drops, including the volcano scepter, which causes a small eruption-effect explosion around the target.
Note: before your go into the fire realm, you'll want to make obsidian armor. It is made by enhancing diamond armor with one Eye of Ender and one obsidian at Ender's Workbench. Obsidian armor, aside from the armor bonus, makes you immune to fire and lava. Very useful when traversing the fire realm and nether.
the second circle is the shadow realm. This realm is very dark, and lighting from a torch will only go about five blocks out before it runs out. Lava will turn to obsidian as soon as it is placed in here as well, and redstone circuits will not work. The enemies out in the open are as follows:
light slayers: when well lit, they look sort of like black slimes, they induce darkness (reduces precieved light levels by five) and despawn torches they land on, consuming the drop. They will target light sources, and will ignore you if you do not give off light.
wraiths: very hard to see in the deep shadows, they are rather translucent, inflict poison damage, and fly, albeit slowly.
darkhounds: dog-shaped, but much bigger, inflict darkness, destroy light sources like light-slayers, and are very strong, but rather slow.
shadow demons: darken the area around them with an aura, sort of like the opposite of a torch, but other than that are basically fire demons without the fire balls.
the fortresses keep you form placing light sources at all, and have shadow-souled, which are like really nasty wither skeletons, and also has dark archers, which act like flare imps, only the inflict darkness instead of on fire.
The boss is a fantasy-addicts favorite... You get to fight a balrog.
Note: suggested armor for this? Flare armor. Enchant obsidian armor with essence of fire (crafted from first circle drops) and lava rock (drop from volcano demon) Flare armor is immune to fire and lava, but also gives off light. It DOES make the light-slayers target you, but with the gear you have by this time, they are about as difficult as slimes to an iron-level player. Believe me, the light you get from wearing the armor is worth the investment.
the circles are as follows:
1. fire
2. shadow
3. earth
4. ice
5. storm
6. corruption
7. death
8. void
9. chaos
This idea is open to suggestions, in fact, I would love them, this idea seems a bit complex to implement into minecraft as it is, but it is really a cool idea (to me at least) and I would love to see it implemented in some form.
No support. This just seems to be more Hellish Nether, and I think Notch mentioned somewhere that he didn't want the Nether to be like hell, only hellish. And those you listed are not the Nine Circles of Hell.
No, no and no. That's all too much, and a lot of those things like "shadow demon" and "light slayers" sound boring and generic. None of that would be worth the time implement in the Nether. None of it.
