creator progress?
the image you saw that i posted was made in photoshop, it's just a concept.
i don't think anyone is coding it, and i don't think notch has even remotely heard of it yet
he needs to see the thread though, the original poster wanted to tell him something important on top of the mob maker idea
as for photoshop progress, i'm pretty much done making the concept on it. i just wanted to provide a [basic] visual aspect for the idea
If this post isn't dead already, I definitely am in support of the idea. There would need to be regulations, of course, especially considering multiplayer modes, as well as increased moderation, but I feel it can be pulled off. And, obviously, similar to Spore, if inappropriate models are uploaded online, the user should be penalized. (Though, I don't think it should be restricted in single player.)
The only potential problem I could foresee is users abusing the program, making incredibly weak mobs that drop rare items. Then again, people also use inventors, so idk. I think it's more likely that this could be made as an external software, or a patch, not directly affiliated with Mojang.

People can choose which mobs to add to their game. In SMP, only the server admins can pick. And it is rather annoying to have everything handed to you on a silver platter. Or a diamond one, for that matter.
This all seems great... but I feel like it could go one step beyond what spore did. What about making an npc option? he could do simple things... like talking, giving quests, and following the players.
then, the server hosts could build towns and populate them with npc's!
you could also add a "recording" feature, where a player takes on the roll of an npc and controls his every action for a day- and then the npc would do that every day.

Inappropriate mobs:
this would only happen if a user made an offensive skin or if free modeling was allowed. the user wouldn't necessarily need to be penalized, the creation online could just be flagged as inappropriate. if the user earned themselves enough flags, all of that user's creations could have the preview avatar blanked out with a red ! mark taking it's place, as if to say "warning, content may be inappropriate"; until the user got rid of said inappropriate creations and waited 2 days, the warning marks would be cleared.
Unfair mobs:
also, it is the users' choice to make unfair mobs as well as choose to use them. therefore, it does not pose a problem to everyone.

that seems like a brilliant idea, but it also seems to brilliant for the likes of notch. if he started on it i'd reckon it would end up like the infdev map previewer (404 Not Found).

You could also select an area on which they could waly around aimlessley...Something like that...Or just have them walk around aimlessly altogether! I could imagine a mob maker, too! Notch should add some ragdoll physics to go along with it! (I'd make a walking dolphin and kill it and watch it fall off a cliff >:smile.gif:)
This is one of the berst ideas I have ever seen! You deserve cake when we win it! If this isnever implimented, I will go !
The only downside of this is that it would be easy to create a massively overkill mob. Imagine it, a flying, lavaproof fallproof, drownproof mob that moves, swims, flies as fast as possibly allowed. It can melee as well as shoot projectiles, which can target you from 100 blocks and have a blast radius of 20 blocks. If you are in this radius you die instantly. Oh, and it has twice as much health as you. And it's massive. And it spawns everywhere, anytime. And it can destroy blocks. And it only targets you.
You wouldnt have to download the mob. Youd probably be able to preview everything about the mob before downloading it, so that wouldnt be a problem like everyone is saying.

Full support. I would absolutely love this, because I would make so many mobs. Maybe a new area could be made on the Skindex for Mob skins. But yeah, that interface looks great. Maybe you could have the ability to change the blocks in the background so that you can test how strong it's attacks are... And also, an "Attack only those of it's Kind" option in the interface. And maybe an option to make it Bovine, giving it the ability to give milk, and a Cloth ability, making it drop cloth when hit. Maybe different parts of the body could be made longer or shorter, like chicken legs could be made longer.
Aslo, I'd like to make a list of mob models that should be available:
Short 4 legged Model: Same thing as a pig, pretty simple.
Bird model: The current chicken model.
Tall 4 legged model: The same sort of thing as a cow.
Medium 4 legged model: A sheep model
Zombie model: Makes a figure with outstreched hands.
Skeletal model: Same thing as the current skeleton
Creeper Model: Self explanatory. If you don't know what this looks like, you need to leave this site now.
Humanoid model: A figure with a humanoid shape. Useful for making NPCs, Ogres, Trolls, Him, etc.
Angel_of_Light is right, there would be a previewer of the mob like there is on Minecraft's skin page, with the model that previews the skin. There would also be a detailed summary that includes the creator's description and a list of what the mob includes (flying, 10000 HP, spawns in fire, etc)
Don't forget, we have creeper cakes too :wink.gif:
It would be funny if Notch made the new cakes after these, or we could just change the texture of them
red scribble - active ability (a creeper avtivates it's explosion)
blue scribble - passive ability (a ghast is fireproof)
yellow scribble - attack (a skeleton shoots arrows)
green scribble - monster statistics (damage of attack, speed, attack rate, health etc.)
lavender box in top right - monster name (zombie)
golden yellow scribble - monster movement limitations (ghasts can fly)
white scribble - monster idle sound/ aggresivesound (zombies groan)
red scribble - spawning limitations (how light it has to be, how dark it has to be, what block it cant spawn on, what block it can only spawn on, how high or low, in the nether or on the minecraftian world, etc.)
bottom words - inventory (hold stuff in it)
dark turquoise box - test as player
dark turquoise circle - test as mob
light gray scribble in the middle - spawn on which difficulty (chickens spawn on peaceful)
dark gray scribble in the middletop - preview/skin edit button
my suggestion, hope its not utterly despised!

Bad idea with 3rd program; When Notch release SDK, in it propably there is Mob Creator.
PS. Sorry for my English
Do you mean 3rd Party program? (made by someone who doesn't work for Notch)
If that's what you mean, I agree. I would rather have Notch make it himself, so it will be Official and legit

Ya, I want it as like another crafting table crafted late late game, like past the nether late. If it's a mod, it will hav to be updated often. And it wont be updatedoften. So it will fade into oblivion.
The only way to contact Notch woulld be with the...

Sheepers.
Cowmen.
Manbearpig.
And let's not forget about the thing.
What if people did some of these on SMP? This would be new age griefing. Though it would be cool to have a companion cow.

Actually, that's the best mental image ever. A dying, drowning man stuffing his face from a massive wall of cake, and carving out a monstrous underwater cake picture. I'd pay to watch that irl.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.

not.

Notch would be able to code in abilities that we as plaers dont hav in theediting room.
I will post wat I envisioned it as in a bit. Have to make it first.
