It'd be nice to ask someone who has a better chance of contacting and getting a response from Notch to please send him this thread so he can see it, but I'm skeptical that that will happen.
As far as I know, SeaNanners has a relationship with Notch... get SeaNanners to see and like it... And that's your ticket to Notch!

OMGOMGOMG, I seriously had a dream about that . I made a giant lime caterpillar . The thing is, the legs(or arms or whathaveyou) couldn't move. Frownyface.
I approve completely. This is a great idea, as long as we actually can create our own shapes for the mobs. Actually, even then it would be great. But still...
like ur ''mom'' stole u from the orphanage? lol jk
but no it was not evryone wants this becouse creating mods can be so hard sometimes and this realy edits all the files needed in one program so.. every game wants this :biggrin.gif: (and yes i know u where tolling)
and for the OP..
yes awesome idea!! this improves my idea of an moddeling program for minecraft :biggrin.gif:
OMG, this would be so amazing and so usefull I just have to put my 2cents in.
-As a mod this would be AMAZING, but it simply should not (and will not I promise you) be in the real game.
-This idea gets +
-If it was actually made, the creator would get + ect.
and for an attack editor, if it would be possible, allow area of effect altering, damage altering, and force editing. IE a creeper with a 2-block radius self-destruct, that does a half-heart of damage... with a force grade of 10000 (able to destroy obsidian). and when it dies, drops... NOTHING! (or diamonds... or even feathers!)
possible to assign attacks to different mobs (as discussed before), such as a fire-breathing creeper that incinerates everything, or an exploding sheep... or a cow with a bow...
this would allow Mechacreepers!

i won't be responding very often until the "view your posts" function is back up.
The only downside of this is that it would be easy to create a massively overkill mob. Imagine it, a flying, lavaproof fallproof, drownproof mob that moves, swims, flies as fast as possibly allowed. It can melee as well as shoot projectiles, which can target you from 100 blocks and have a blast radius of 20 blocks. If you are in this radius you die instantly. Oh, and it has twice as much health as you. And it's massive. And it spawns everywhere, anytime. And it can destroy blocks. And it only targets you.
Get the idea?
Apart from that, love the idea.
That's actually unspeakably cool. Minus the spawns everywhere. I'd love a super-persistent predator to give me a reason to hide.

This is also just the reason it should be made as a mod only. For people with the know-how of installing and utilizing mods, would be an absolutely groundbreaking tool. However, added to the game itself, it would simply be annoying in the hands of unexperienced and immature hands.
The big thing now would be to get a good coder/moder to get on this idea and make it a real mod. I'm relatively new to the forum, so i don't have contact to anybody like that. If you know one (or are one!) get them on this.
I've given this idea some thought. The best way to do this seems (to me at least) to be as five separate programs. There will be: a modelling program, a painting program, an animation program, an everything-else editor (basically, the options Riyuzakisan came up with), and a compiler (which puts everything together). This way, the task is compartmentalized, and allows for more collaboration with a single mob. (i.e. One person builds the model, another paints, etc.) Later, there may be a sound editing program as well. The preliminary version(s) probably wouldn't have the same level of detail as the UI that Riyuzakisan designed, but eventually it could.
EDIT 2: Also, most of the above would come with preconfigured parts (so, prebuilt models, skins, and such), so the casual mob maker could just tweak a few behavioral aspects, for example, and crank out their mob.
I know rubixcuber was working on something for this, but his work seems to have ground to a halt. I don't have anything beyond the concepts mentioned above, but summer break means plenty of free time, so I'll see what I can do. Any feedback on the above would be much appreciated. (Or let me know if I missed a thread about how someone is 98% done with this.) =P
EDIT: Please ignore the fact that this was my first post. =P
I actually hope to see something like this not as a third party but as an in house project for Mojang. Ideas like this do mean the investment of time and money but at the end of the day they increase your games longevity a thousand fold.
I'm also hoping it would come with some official creature exchange support. Possibly even allowing players the option to opt-in to "random encounters" in which highly praised community generated creatures might show up in their game randomly.
Of course that assumes that all the code for the creatures behavior is derived from in application functions. Which would also make sharing creatures as easy as exchanging MC skins is now, With the addition of some QR code like snippet in their texture file that would allow the game to use its existing functions to generate the creature. Tho that does limit the behaviors and I'm not sure how easy it would be to store creature geometry in a QR code like structure.
Before I get to the idea, I want to apologize to Notch.
I'm quite sure that Notch does not remember the incident to which I refer, but since I was the one in the wrong, it remains my responsibility to make the apology, remembered or not.
If you are reading this: Yes, I'm the same Krelos from Wurm who acted like a total A-Hole to you when you completely did not deserve it. For that I am very sorry. If you can forgive me I can promise that my douche-like past will stay there in the past, well actually, it will even if you wont forgive me. But all the same, I hope that you won't think of me as poorly as you probably have since then, in the few sparse moments you might have remembered me at all.
In the likely event that you don't remember me or what I'm talking about, suffice to say that I was once a jerk to you and you had every right to ban me outright but did not, which pretty much proved wrong the things I thought about you. Sorry for thinking them in the first place.
I simply hope that when, if ever, I come to your mind in the future, it is not with a negative thought.
Now, on to the idea.
The MC Mob Maker would probably be a 3rd party program like Omen and NBT, but would instead allow people to use custom mob models and plug in whatever abilities and behaviors they wanted.
What this would (probably) require from Notch would be to build the mob library in such a way that the program would be able to pull information from it and plug in new entries, so each server could in theory have its own custom mobs.
I guess that's the extent of the idea.
It would (in my imagination) let us make our own models and pick from a few different preexisting walking methods/animations or maybe even put in new ones, pick when it spawned, how it acted (aggressive, passive, passive in daylight, etc.) what it could do (shoot arrows, explode, walk on water, fire-immune, etc.) and what it dropped on death (anything from arrows to stupid things like water cubes)
Hopefully it would let us combine all these things in any way the user wanted, so as to allow creatures that both shot arrows and exploded and dropped multiple items types if so desired.
If this could be done then it would open the game up to a lot of creative possibilities that, at the moment, require Notch's direct attention and time.
Imagine a library of people's creatures with all the details listed where you can grab what you want and just plug it in to your server. Where Notch could go and browse to find the best of the best and include them in the 'vanilla' version for everyone to use.
Sure there would be a ton of terrible things made, but there would also be a ton of fantastic things made.
Yeah, this does sound like SporeCC for MC now that you mention it, but that doesn't seem like a bad thing.
Where's the download?
It doesn't exist yet.
