FAQ:
Q: This seems really dangerous, what if someone makes a mob with 1 HP that drops 64 diamond blocks? Or a creeper that explodes 100 blocks around it? What if someone makes a really stupid mob?! I don't want it in my game.
A: You would be able to control which User-Created mobs are used in your game. If you want to "ruin" the gameplay for yourself by creating a weak mob that drops infinite valuables, that's entirely up to you.
Q: What about on multiplayer servers?
A: The mob control would be up to the server owner. Who are we to judge what mobs they want to use on their servers? It's entirely up to them.
Q: Can we make our own mob shapes?
A: It could be a possibility, but there could also be some pre-made shapes to chose from.
Q: How do we share mob files?
A: I would think that it would be a good idea for mobs to be stored in mob files, so that they could be shared between people. This idea would operate much like Texture Packs do.
Q: Who will make this?
A: I would guess that it is intended as a suggestion to be put into Minecraft officially, but the Original Poster (Krelos) has said that mods are welcome for this idea. Please keep in mind though, Mod development should not be the focus of this thread!
Q: WHERE CAN I GET THIS?!?!
A: What you see above is an image I created in Photoshop, it isn't an actual application; it's just a concept art.
While there are mods in existence based on this idea, the concept of the Mod Maker is being presented as a suggestion to be added into Minecraft officially by Mojang.

This has taken much of my time, and it'd be a waste to see this idea forgotten and never seen by at least someone at Mojang.
This is just basically a visual concept of the idea, so the graphics probably don't matter.
If anyone with some sort of connection to Mojang would be interested in sending this over to them, that would be pretty cool if they had a peak at it :wink.gif:
This sounds like something that could be both heavily abused and produce awesomeness. I think it would work best as part of a balancing system. Meaning something similar to Spore where you can only add so much to the creature. Because just as there are surely specially modded 'super hardcore' worlds that are night all the time and can spawn mobs at almost any light level and such, someone would make a flying, water-walking, charging ,exploding, light-tolerant, fireproof, spider-skeleton-zombie hybrid hyper mobs. Tho on the other side someone would probably make very interesting variant mobs to help vanilla become just that much more Minecraft. I do think that the pack mobs would be very interesting but scary idea.
7 long hours of work and 200 Photoshop Layers later...
I present to you the finished main layout:
Please click the image... it's for your own good.
I assure you this has taken much of my time, and it'd be a waste to see this idea forgotten and never seen by the eyes of Notch. He probably hasn't even seen the OP's apology, let alone he probably forgot about the whole ordeal.
Sure, some of the buttons and icons don't fit with the Minecraft look. I don't care, it's not like this .png can change any in game values (though it would be nice )
This is just basically a visual concept of the idea, so the graphics probably don't matter.
It'd be nice to ask someone who has a better chance of contacting and getting a response from Notch to please send him this thread so he can see it, but I'm skeptical that will happen.
Anyways, cheers!
Even better! But is there any way to edit the model? I would think that it would be a must, considering the variaty that could come from an editor of such (if it would exist).

Check the above link or a creeper will be waiting outside your door....
Yes, centaurs that are friendly and drop diamonds
spawn in daylight and have 1 hp, common , sorry that would make my day so there should be limitations.
Here's to everyone who wants to add things to the mob model itself, like extra arms:
I think it would be very difficult to program such a framework that allowed for adding extra body parts, there's a few aspects of it to consider. First, you've got to consider which limbs will promote motion, if any do so. Then consider the animation for said limbs, and finally which body parts they are parented (connected) to and receive motion from. Such as the upper arm distributes motion to the forearm.

I strongly object to something like this; I much rather have a Minecraft NPC API that can accept logic from outside the game via TCP/IP.. that way people could start programming everything up to automated miners, mobs that hunt in packs, entire legions of the undead reacting in intelligent ways, etc.
Give us an API instead of this simpleton tool Notch, if anything.
I have to agree and disagree with what you say here. An API would be very nice to have and I'm sure it will be implemented. However, having an API doesn't mean we can't have a simpleton tool (or vice versa), for easily building or customizing Mobs for us people who don't have a full grasp on how that API system will work.
Sure, the Mob Creator will allow a bunch of uncreative people to make loads of useless crap, but if it's all stored in an online library (people must submit their mob file), like skindex, where people can chose what Mob they want to download based off of a preview avatar and a description.. then there's nothing to worry about. As I said earlier, the said library might have a 1-10 ranking system for the Mob creations and a "Download" count; and a filter to sort them Alphabetically, by creator name, by creation date, most popular, etc.
I have to disagree with people who dislike the idea, based on its ability to be abused.
Sure people can have diamond droppers, and sure if they find this a "fun" way to play we should let them, Minecraft is about playing the game exactly as YOU want to, thats why its a SANDBOX game.
This idea is awesome! And id love to see it implemented, with a button on the main page that says "insert created mobs" of course they should be some sort of limit as to how many we can import, so we dont put to much stress on the game engine.
Also, I cant see why Notch wouldnt like this idea, It would save him a TONNE of work, as he would never need to add/modify mobs again! as the combined effort of the players would do it for him! And that allows him to develop other areas, take a nap or whatever he likes to do :smile.gif:
If badly designed mobs recive bad ratings, they want cause any issues.
Also, I would like to add an idea to the MC designer:
-How about a "test" button, that spawns you and your mob in a test room, and gives you an inventory of things to try out on your mob (sword, bow, water, lava, fire, tnt etc)
That why, we can see if the mob we made acts how we wnated it to.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was thinking earlier that it's much like Creative Mode, people build what ever they want without a universal limitation saying they can't because it would be crappy. Albeit, the server they're on can take action, but there is no global police that sweep through every server and limit people from building lousy stuff.

Actually, that's what the save button is for. It saves the mob into a "Mobs" folder in the .minecraft directory (like we have the texturepacks folder). There would have to be an in game option (while playing) to specify which mobs you want. There would also have to be a limit of something like 10 mob species per level.

32x32x32 room perhaps? sounds like a good idea for testing out the mob, i like it! I'll add a "Test Mob" button just for effects.
I'll also add a few controls on the bottom of the preview window for things like orbiting around the creation or zooming in.
Maybe, in the Skin Editor area, you could choose from all the current mobs to use as a BASE MODEL, and change it to your liking from there. Could be used until people find a way to have their own models used in it.

that's what i was thinking too, there would need to be pre-made base models that users could pick to customize so things wouldn't get too messy

well it's up to you to chose to use that mob, hehe
YOU are the limitation, in this case, you define what mobs are used in your single player worlds
a server owner will define what mobs are to be used in their server. it would be up to them, they would be the limitation. then if there are problems with super easy mobs, it's the owner's fault for using it, not the creator of the mob
Here's another minor update, I think I'm about done with it. Expect the next big thing to be something like a sub-menu such as Advanced Options or the Skin Editor.
Thanks Ryu For reading my post and taking my idea into account, it made me happy
Base models are a good idea for a size limitaion or starting point, such as:
2 high 1 wide 1 long (human, zombie, skeletons, zombie pigmen and creepers use this one)
2 wide 1 high 1 long (spiders use this one)
2 high (i think) 1 wide and 2 long (cows, pigs and sheep use this)
1 high 1 wide 1 long (chickens use this)
There is also the strange ine use for gahsts, but i dunno if that would be a good one to use...
I think its 4 wigh by 4 wide by 4 long, but im not 100% sure...
Anyway, this ideas awesome! Im adding my support to my signature!

Oh my ****ing god YEEEEESSSSSSS! I love the GUI that Riyuzakisan made. ****ing epic, and something that while difficult, wouldn't really require any new features to be added to the game besides.
Oh and I predict if this is implemented someone's going to create a notch mob...

sure, i don't see why not. it just serves as a customizable form for filling in the values which would otherwise be hard-coded into the game.
