Uhm, since how hard is it to just press E? Its really not worth implementing because some people just cant be bothered to hit ONE button.
Actually I would say something like this would be seen as a priority even for Mojang. Their change with dispensers auto equiping armor shows that they see the value that small interface/user experience tweaks like this bring to overall game value. And as has been stated before this would not save one simple button press you are looking at a series of actions taht can be streamlined to make the game just that little bit more enjoyable.

I guess if I have my chest open while having a 2x2 crafting grid, it will totally make me own every mob that decides it wants to mess with me, because 2x2 crafting grids are SO OVERPOWERED.

I don't support, it gets rid of the cool feeling you get as you move around your room from chests to furnaces to crafting tables.
You would still have to do all that. The suggestion is to allow the 2x2 crafting grid and the armour slots to show up in the GUI of chests, furnaces, etc. You want to look in your chest, you still have to go to it. You want to smelt, you still have to go to your furnace. You want to make a piston (for example), you still need to go to a crafting table. I don't know why you would think otherwise.
Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

As TwistedNerve said all of that would still be necessary. I would even go so far as to suggest that it could add to the feeling of moving around and getting things done as the work would flow more smoothly.

I don't see how this makes anything too easy or cluttered and as the example I gave shows this could be added to the existing popups with out changing that much at all (and I promise I will work on getting more examples done one of these days.) Please expand on why you think this would make things "too easy"?

As to the 3x3 grid in creative I don't see why it couldn't be but I also don't see why it should be added as you have access to all of the things you can craft with it anyways (as far as I know but I don't play creative much). I did add the 2x2 grid based off of a suggestion.
I give support because I am always trying to fill my creative inventory/chests fast and this would help me and some others out in the best of regards. Support.
