Since I don't like swamps that much, I don't visit them often. So, if this is already a feature, don't flame me.
I was thinking about swamps the other day, as I was planning a witch hunt. I thought to myself "Is there anything that could be improved?", and I thought of a couple
Mucky Water
Whenever you go in swamp water, it will slow you down more than regular water. Not only would this make swamps a bit more realistic, but could be a potentially useful mob trap.
Mob Spawn Rates
Since this is a swamp, squids would not/rarely spawn there. Not many passive animals would spawn either, and monsters would spawn more often.( since swamps are used a lot in horror films)
Terrain
The swamp should be a couple of rivers that intertwine, with the edges being thick with oak trees. All trees that grow in a swamp biome tend to be taller and thinner than their counterparts in other biomes. Also, there wouldn't be any mountains.

Pointing out fallacies to undermine an argument is also a fallacy...

1. Hmm... This could be difficult to code, but would be a neat feature. I personally love swamps and live in many, so I'm against it.
2. Squids are passive mobs, just saying. Buuuuut... I like it. Mob spewing less would be a bit realistic, I'm game for it.
3. Rivers looks quite ugly currently with color clashing, but a new tree or something would be a nice feature too.
This a swamp in the real world:
Much like Minecraft swamps, it's a big pond with lots of trees in the water. Lilypads (or other various aquatic plant life) grows on the water.
This is how Hollywood portrays swamps:
Edit: Actually this is one of the prettier images I've seen. But searching "Hollywood swamp" started turning up pictures of a dinosaur fighting King Kong, so I'm going to stop.
As you can see, Hollywood portrays swamps as mucky, almost as if they're filming a puddle filled with mud. Hollywood swamps are not to be trusted, they are not realistic. Minecraft swamps are already quite realistic in terms of water quality and tree placement.
That's how I'm counteracting your "realism" arguments.
As for the function of the suggestions:
Water slows you down plenty. Have you tried walking in it lately? Slowing you down more so is simply overkill.
I want to live in swamps too, I like it there sometimes. Swamps already spawn slimes, so why should swamps be even harder to live in?
"Taller and thinner trees"...without the addition of the "better trees" suggestion (an old idea that suggested implementing some kinds of trees as skinny as fences and others about 4 blocks thick), this is impossible, swamp trees, like every other current tree (excluding larger jungle trees) are one block thick:
Beyond that, if I'm not mistaken, swamp trees already grow taller, since they're in the water and such, and have vines. I can't actively recall seeing a swamp tree that had it's leaves less than two blocks above the ground on land, or one that wasn't 5-6 blocks tall in the water.
As I said, i don't go to swamps (in real life or minecraft) so obviously I will have some pointless, dumb ideas. but, with improvement, this could be a great idea.

All in all... 68.2% support.
