You start a game on Survival 'God Game' setting. (Or hopefully a better name than that)
You spawn in a village with a 10 villagers in. You have to survive, but your villagers also have to survive. It's your job to keep them safe and protect them from all the usual nasties. It's also your job to build houses for them to help them grow. Decorative features in and around the village will also help them to grow. The number of villagers is displayed in the corner of the screen.
You can also play the game on creative in the same way with the usual benefits of creative mode.
More detail:
I believe the way the game works at the moment is that you get a villager for every 1.5 house doors within a radius of the village centre. I would like that to start lower but you could increase it by placing decorative features like books, pictures, flowers or precious materials within the town radius. The more houses and the more decorated the town, the more people. (It might mean you need to define a house better than just a door with more space in front than behind as is the case now.)
Because you would need to protect all your villagers from the usual bad guys I think you should get 10 game days of peace before the mobs come for you and your people.
Anybody else like the idea?

This bit you are reading now is my signature. It's a block of text that's added to everything I post. So long as it fits within the 255 character limit of course. I think that means spaces too but I'm not really sure.
I was think more along the lines of populous and Civ. There is a fighting mode and a building mode. A looking after stuff mode would appeal to a different set of users.
The Sims is the best selling game franchise ever at 150,000,000 copies sold. Having a mode a little bit like it wouldn't be bad.

I wanted to be one of the cool kids.
This could be interesting, though i'm not sure whether it would be better as a mod or not.
