I've been messing around with the new snapshots, and I've made a few things (one being a way to transpot items upwards with hoppers and dispensers, although this could also be done with storage minecarts and hoppers). I've noticed or thought of a few things that could be imrproved.
We're aware of how comparators output a redstone signal if next to a container, the more items the higher the signal. Well, this currently doesn't apply to storage minecarts, which are becoming more useful. It would be a simple thing to add, and give new possibilities.
My next suggestion: Weighted Detector Rails. This would also help with storage minecarts, since if you made an item transport system, and you had it stop at a certain area to unload items, you could make it go just as it empties. There'd probably be a gold and an iron one, just like regular ones, one light and one heavy.
My next suggestion: Vacuum blocks. These would suck in items (and for fun, small mobs like slimes or chickens), and would send items through a tube, out its backside. Similar to a hopper, but more proximity-based, so you don't have to have a bunch of hoppers in a large area. Perhaps you could also adjust the suction strength by Right clicking it.
My next suggestion: Dispenser Minecarts. These would add another use to the activator rail, and would, after driving over an activator rail, dispense items at its sides. This would be great for either dropping handy items onto the battlefield for you and your allies, or launching arrows at your opponents! The dispenser minecart would also know if there's a block to its side, so if it dispenses while there's a wall at its side, it won't dispense on that side, to save items. (and yes, I'm aware dinnerbone posted a picture of it on twitter. This would just be a variation of it, or possibly having 2 different kinds of it)
My next suggestion: Blades Minecarts OR being run over by a minecart hurts you. You'd think being hit by a hundred pounds of iron moving at several meters per second would hurt you, but no. You just stop it, and send it backwards slightly. So my last suggestion is to either change the mechanics of minecarts to hurt you when they hit you, the higher the speed the higher the damage, or to add bladed minecarts, which do damage when touched, and do even more if they run you over.
Edit: I forgot something, I also wanted to suggest having more orientations for buttons and dispensers. Having them on floors and ceilings would be an interesting idea.
I mainly support this. I also had some ideas for minecarts in a previous suggestion of mine; the link is in my sig if you wanna check it out (not whoring for attention or anything, I just though you might like some suggestions).
