So, as I was playing Minecraft the other day, I was exploring a cave at the lava level. I came across some obsidian and said "Hmm, I could use some of this," so I started mining some. I mined one block and it hit the lava behind it, bounced up and I caught it into my inventory. When this happened, I thought "Interesting... but wouldn't this item be hot if it hit lava?"
And that's when this idea of mine was born.
Concept
Perhaps there could be a way of making items 'hot', whether that be throwing them into lava and catching them if they bounce out, cooking them in a furnace, or combining them with blaze powder. Maybe it would only affect items that just got taken out of a furnace. There's many possibilities.
Okay, okay, so you can make items hot. What would that do?
For about 5-15 minutes after this item became hot, it would stay hot. Having this hot item in your inventory wouldn't do anything - but if you held it in your hand, you'd start taking damage! After all, it's hot!
Okay, I see, that's an interesting idea. But how would this be useful, besides being annoying?
If you were to throw this hot item on the ground, anything that would 'touch' this item would take damage, just as someone would upon holding it. If a mob were to touch / pick up the item, they'd get hurt too, possibly to the point of killing themselves if coordinated right.
Conclusion
It's a small idea, but one that I figured might be cool (or maybe hot?). Hope you all enjoyed reading this! All forms of helpful criticism, support, or feedback is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!
This is interesting, but it'd be like adding a double edged blade in minecraft that did a heart of damage regardless of armor, and only was able to be used to attack if you blocked, doing 2 hearts of damage per second, and lastly if you missed a mob, it'd do 50 hearts of damage.
No support, but at least you're original, and came up with an interesting concept.
See now if it was something like... If you put an Iron Block over Lava (Source Block, not a flowing one) it becomes heated and damages anyone who stands on it for an extended period. That I could maybe get behind as it would be both expensive and risky. But I don't like the idea in the OP.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. The concept was just something I thought up on the spot, and decided to make a topic about it to see what you all thought.

Fairly big coding for unnecessary details...
Probably. I just figured it might be a fun little feature if Mojang's totally out of ideas.
Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.
