Alright, so netherrack has its specialty of being an infinite source of "fuel" for fire, meaning a fire put on it will never go out. This is all well and good by why is it only the top? This has bugged me for a WHILE, and I don't see why this far into the updates they have done, the sides, or even bottom are not flammable.
While some of you may say "But this is so small, why should anyone care?" Think about it. It is small, but to be able to have WALLS on fire, ceilings, caged ROOMS of fire, Signs made of flames as bill boards... Why wouldn't we want this? Why HASN'T this been put in, Or brought to the attention of dinner-bone yet? Its something so small, and so obvious.
sure this would take a bit of tweaking to the fire system, but over all I think it would be worth the it, being able to have this new creative capability.
Anyone agree with this?...
Here's hoping this doesn't plummet to the bottom of the list, While more advanced, complex, and iffy ideas get a bunch of bumps. I know this is simple, and small...but that doesn't mean its not worth while.
The issue will be with ghasts in the nether. When a Ghast fires its fire ball and it hits the nethervraic having fires spawn on the sides of blocks and things will look glichly.
Maybe it's coded somewhat like this. Blocks are flammable or non-flammable. If it's not flammable, it can only be lit on top, and will go out, and never burn up the block. If it is, it can be lit on all sides, and will burn up. I guess Netherrack is "non-flammable," but is coded to stay on fire forever.
Maybe it's something like that, anyway. Seems logical enough.
Although i've never actually tried to set the sides of netherrack on fire, i imagine it being useful for adventure maps and such. It would allow one to potentially make a more compact obstacle using netherrack be placing it in the walls or ceiling.

However....
+1 if the Ghast fireballs are also looked into
I think ghasts have a random chance inside their "explosions" to cause fires. I'm not quiet sure what you mean by glitch to be honest, but it always seemed the "chance" to start fires was similar to the creepers "chance" to COMPLETELY destroy item / blocks (so they cant be picked up)
EDIT: did you mean the fire blocks being "full" fires? I was thinking side flames being how they are if you use a lighter on the side of a peice of wood. A flat "panel" of fire, if you would.

Support, anyway.
Yes, this Is how its coded. Blocks marked as flammable (wool, wood, leaves, ect) can be lit on all sides, but anything else only works on the top. This is why I said, It WOULD take a bit more coding than "allow eternal flame on sides of netherrack". They would need to enable fire charges, lighters, and other stuff to place flames on sides of all blocks, more than likely, but why not have that ether?
So yes, you are correct. And they would need to recode slightly, but the end result would be worth it IMO.
Why would this be added before now? Jens never looked into the nether a lot. anyway. Support. since i can guess this is gonna make a good short lasting fad.

This isn't so much an issue of the nether, as it is an issue of customization and fire. Sure this would inevitably change the nether slightly, but is that worse than forever having it only doable on the top?

Or he could just code it so that everything can be lit on all sides, but it'll go off anyway. Or just classify Netherrack as flammable but change its exception to be never burning up instead of never going out.
