Hello. I'm posting this thread to present my idea. I'm not saying it's the best, but I've been working on it for a while and I hope people don't just pass it by.
Potion Arrows would be, if implemented, a new type of arrow. However, instead of doing the impact damage of normal arrows, they apply, as their name suggests, potion effects.
The way they apply effects would be determined by the "class" of potion used in their crafting. Normal potions would only apply potion effects upon making contact directly with a player. Splash potions would apply their affects to everyone in the area of their splash. Both types of potion arrow would stack, but unlike normal arrows they would only stack up to 16, like eggs or snowballs.
If a player has seperate types of potion arrows in his inventory, or potion arrows and flint arrows, the bow's firing mechanics would change. The arrows being fired would have to be in the hotbar to fire. If different types of arrows were both in the hotbar, the ones closer to the bow would fire. In the case of them being the same distance from the bow, the one which was fired would be selected at random.
If you're wondering how this differs from normal throwing potions, here's why - One, they go as far as arrows, an obvious pro for the user. Two, they allow for safer potion attacks on other players, which is not a pro for all but many will appreciate it.
So, any support? I'll change this thread as you guys give me feedback.
The only problem with this suggestion is that it make Splash potion nearly useless, only used to make that arrows."As why you would risk get 7 blocks to throw a Splash potion but instead you just snipe from 40+ blocks?".
Other than this everything is ok.
I was ready to explode my PMS-induced rage on this idea, but this is presented very well.
This has been suggested before, but now that I think about it, this could work out well with proper balance. Although, it might hurt the want to throw the potions themselves though.

Sorry, I just searched "potion arrow" when I was looking to see if it was suggested before. Thanks for the feedback.
The idea itself is very good. But the crafting must be changed: A potion bottle with a normal arrow. Splash potions would NOT craft these arrows, that means they can still be useful and not be exchanged by this new arrow(sometimes splash potions are not accurate(then use the arrow to hit a single player) but sometimes you will use it for doing potion effects for many players or in a greater close range(use the potion itself)).
Everything else is fine. Since you may not like these points I've presented: Half-Support
