Edit: seems as though I am the only one who actualy lives in the nether 90% of the time in minecraft.
So I have been wondering when are we getting more nether structures? the nether seems kind of empty, and maybe that is how it is supposed to be, but this adds a little more purpose for going to the nether, and it also brings a new wood type!
Nether trees are a rare tree, only found in the nether, growing on netherrack.
These trees are very tough, to survive this hellish environment, and their trunks
can stand up to a ghast's fireball, however, the leaves can not.
The trunk can not be burned, but can be set on fire (like netherrack) the leaves
can burn, just like normal leaves.
Nether trees are scarce, due to the tough environment they live in.
A small nether tree can be found just twice per chunk, while the larger nether trees can only found once per chunk. Small nether trees have a 30% chance to be found, while the large trees have a 10% chance.
The nether wood is a reddish wood, since it absorbed some of the materials from the netherrack it grows on, and the nether wood planks are a nice red color, perfect for building the floor of your home.
Nether wood logs can not be used as a fuel in a furnace, but the planks can. The planks burn twice as long as normal planks would.
Nether saplings are rarer than normal saplings, and have a 0.05 chance of dropping from the nether leaves.
Nether trees are only generated with the world if there is enough air around them, meaning that they are found more often in large "nether plains", instead of in small caves and crevices.

these trees are more common then the large nether trees, and can be found

A nether sapling, nether wood log, and nether leaves A large nether tree
These are much rarer then the small tree, and can only be generated once

The nether wood smelts items for twice as long
as other woods
