I've never liked that the mobs inside spawners can't be edited in minecraft without the aid of a mod or an external program, which is why I think you should be able to edit them with spawn eggs. By simply right-clicking on the mob spawner with a spawn egg (creeper for example) you would make it so that the spawner spawns creepers. To give the mob items, you would right-click on the mob spawner with armor or some sort of weapon. Since creepers can't wear clothes or hold weapons for obvious reasons, when you right-click on a creeper spawner the spawner will deny your request. However, when a mob such as a zombie spawns from a zombie spawner, he will have all of the equipment you wanted that spawner to spawn zombies with. I think a feature like this would be a very useful edition to minecraft, especially for novice adventure map-makers who don't want to go through the trouble of installing mods or downloading programs. What do you think?
i agree completely. i have been trying to make a zombie spawns only adventure map. it was easy: use the doMobSpawning command to disable mob spawning then use spawn eggs/mob spawners to make zombies the only mob. it ended when A: i am clueless with dispencers
B: mob spawner only spawned pigs. i tryed bukkit but it screwed up my computer and i don't know how to install mods. if they were to add this feature to minecraft (1.6 or later) it would be very helpfull
Support, though for the title you might want to say "Editable Mob Spawners without External Programs" because technically external programs are considered vanilla.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

I disagree that the ability to edit mob spawners in-game should be implemented, for survival at least. However, being able to create a custom spawner in a creative world would be nice.
As of now, This feature is not available in-game, but it IS possible to do without having to install Mods or change your .jar file.
Half support, as this is already possible in the new snapshots using the /setblock command to place a mob spawner with certain data (For example, a command block can place spawners that spawn fully diamond armored skeletons with enchanted gear.) although, this would simplify certain processes a ton.

I didnt know thats possible already . what i normally use is mcedit for this kind of stuff but if this is good as mcedit stuff then i support. if not 1/2 half support.

In the new snapshot many command block upgrades and new commands are really good in terms of map making features. Notice that many of Sethblings new creations with the snapshot don't usually use MCEdit, except in cases where he needs to copy and paste stuff.

Is that really possible? If possible, I'd like for someone to try first-hand to make sure.
I know you can now spawn mobs/blocks with custom MBT data, but I'm not sure if you can spawn a spawner to spawn custom mobs.
Okay, I'm not alone...good...good.
This would be nice since I never use programs, so yeah, I support.
(This would be particularly useful for the 360...hint, hint.)
Support, there should be some way to edit them within vanilla, they've already moved quite the step forward with the new command block features, maybe make it so the command block can write "/placeblock spawner 78 8 8 [radious=5],[spawn:creeper] etc."
The point of this is it to be VANILLA. As in NOT MODDED.
Okay, so an unmodified game, vanilla .jar?
That is exactly what i'm talking about? Changing the type of mob that spawns without having to install mods..
If you actually read my post, then you'd understand that I am speaking from a NO MODS version of the game.
You are basically asking for what I just volunteered a tutorial on to be doable through an in-game UI, and saying that using an in-game UI would not be qualify as "Modify" but doing it through other means does.
You are literally saying:
changing ___ to ___ using ____ isn't modify. (Spawner A -> Spawner B using in game tool)
changing ___ to ___ using ____ is modify. (Spawner A -> Spawner B using out of game tool)
You aren't using a mod, you aren't changing your .jar, you are simply using software that allows you to access the game files that aren't supported by anything else on your computer.
Sure, command blocks work fine, unless you are in survival.

I posted an in-depth tutorial on how to go about customizing any mob spawner on any map in any version of the game earlier today.
